About the adventure
“Who wants to go first?” you ask. You and your new companions are in the dusty basement of a temple. The large stone tile you've just removed from the floor is laying next to you. It was covering a gaping hole into blackness. No ladder. No stairs. No handholds. “What is that putrid smell?” the scout of your team whispers while peering into the hole. “Not sure. It’s nothing I’ve smelled before." You admit. “How's this for an idea?” the lockpick mumbles. “How about we say we couldn’t find the dagger and just leave town?” The same thought had occurred to you a number of times. “Our benefactor would just track us down," you say. "And the next thing we know, we’d be swinging from the gallows. We all owe her something and she’s not going to let us go free until we do this.” You fasten the end of your rope to a stone column and drop the rest of it down the hole, hoping it’s long enough to reach the bottom. “Alright. Let’s do this,” you say with more confidence than you feel as you take a firm grip on the rope and step over the ledge. — In THE TOMBBREAKER'S OATH you play a member of a newly formed group of adventurers tasked with exploring long forgotten tombs beneath the city of Aratai. About me
Hello! My name is Vahid. As well as being a Dungeon Master for 40+ years, I am the producer and DM of the streaming show Dice Legenz (links below to check out our show). Over the 40+ years of being in the D&D scene I have spent thousands of hours playing HEAPS of different TTRPG systems, but I especially love D&D 5th edition. Role-playing games are an amazing way to connect with friends, make new friends, create new and exciting worlds, and just have a wonderful creative time. Fun is the core of all of the games that I run. The sessions that we will have together will be a balance of engaging, interactive role playing, and exciting, thrilling, fast paced action. While running pre-made modules is fun, the real excitement for me is creating new worlds, new characters, new adventures. Therefore, the games that I run are in unique world settings. Together, we will encounter monsters you have never seen before in places no one has ever visited before. And at the heart of all of the adventure are the characters that YOU make - the heroes, or perhaps antiheroes, of our adventure. Creating your character
Characters will start at level 1. We will discuss character creation in our free Session Zero. Feel free to bring character ideas to the session but the characters will be locked in during the Session Zero. During that session we will talk about character backstories, connections, and the setting. Players will then make/finlise their level 1 characters. You are welcome to use 2024 or 2014 traits. Official D&D book sources only. Standard array stats. Averaged hit points. Standard starting equipment. You can use the character creator tools within the Roll20 game if you want. I have access to the full 2024 and 2014 Players Handbook options.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a working microphone, internet connection, account on Roll20 (it is free), and to join my Discord server (also free). Cameras are optional. I use a camera. You can choose. You are welcome to use physical dice or digital.
What Vahid Qualls brings to the table
VTT, professional maps, immersive music, professional voicing. We use the Rules as Written most of the time, but aren't afraid to bend them to make room for the Rule of Cool.
Homebrew rules
Initiative scores instead of rolling initiative. This gets us into combat faster. See pg. 42 of the Dungeon Masters Guide for details. Critical Saving Throws. A nat 20 on a saving throw roll means no effect, even if a save would normally mean 1/2 damage. A nat 1 on a saving throw means double damage. If a character with the Evasion trait (e.g. rogues and rangers) rolls a nat 1 they take full damage instead of half damage.
