About the adventure

Something is wrong in this world. You felt it the moment you arrived, and it permeates everything you see, touch, and taste. The closer you look, the worse it gets. Reality itself feels like it's warping right in front of your eyes. A cult moves in the shadows, certain beyond doubt that they carry a sacred destiny to remake this world. By the time you understand what's truly happening, you're already woven into their plans. And yet, there is a way out... if you choose wisely. The creatures here are born from the lore of the land, each warped by its connection to local folk horror. Some have become monsters. Others are simply unusual. The people you meet may become companions, confidants, even friends, that is until their true nature surfaces, and you realise not everyone is what they seem. Throughout this story, multiple threads weave their own tale, pulling tighter together as the end draws near. Each of you carries a unique thread, tied to your character in ways you won't expect, and you're never quite sure where it might connect next. Let us begin...

About me

Hey there, I'm Japes (jay-ps). I'll be your Game Master and am the person responsible for bringing the games together. Fair warning, I'm dyslexic and have a dry sense of humour. Both rule KO here… I’ve been running games since I was a kid with that first game being D&D. Since then I’ve had so much fun running other game systems, from Shadowrun to Call of Cthulhu and recently Mothership. During all this time I’ve found that the shared experience of these fantasy worlds is like a simmering cauldron: we all put our ideas in, give it a gentle stir and see what its like. Meaning at this table, there is plenty of room for your imagination to take flight... just don't be like Icarus! All the games I run are in a safe, creative space. All I ask from you is to be courteous to everyone in the game. It doesn't matter if you're playing a 1920s FBI agent in a Cthulhu Mythos romp, a piece of Sapient Pearwood in Discworld, or a Fairy Barbarian who growls at enemies. And when at the table, play it like you mean it. Come join us, as I can't wait to see the great ideas you come up with.

Character creation

Creating your character

• 5.5e (2024) rules are in use • D&D Beyond will be used for character creation • Species & Classes options using the Crooked Moon species and subclass options as a preference. They were made specifically for the game and fit it beautifully. 5.5e (2024) PHB options are available too if you'd prefer. • Ability rolls will be 4d6 dropping lowest. Any totals below 74, can be re-rolled, which is better than Points Buy. • Equipment: Starting as this is a new campaign. • Magical item: to be acquired If you’re joining after the start, your character will start at the same level as the party. We’ll have a chat about this in the 1to1 Session0.

The current party

Having arrived in a village of Wickermoor Hollow, The party are starting to learn who's who. Although the train journey was somewhat bumpy, they did met the lord and lady of this land, who have been very friendly, even inviting them for dinner. I'm looking forward to their next choice!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

What I do hope you'll bring: • A desire to roleplay your character and be a cooperative player. • No need for a 'character voice', but this is a safe and welcoming place to give it a try if you'd like to. Equipment • A reliable PC with a Chromium-based browser. • A working gaming headset, or a mic and headphones. • A webcam as it really does add to the experience. • Free accounts for the systems we use. I'll send links once you've joined.

What Japes brings to the table

• I'll guide you through the game mechanics as we play, so there's nothing to worry about if you're still getting the hang of things. • I bring the NPCs to life with voices of their own, and love it even more when players join in too. • Colour, hand-drawn maps and all the great features FoundryVTT has to offer. • Background music, with the volume fully in your control. • Storytelling that brings real narrative suspense to the table. • A sprinkle of dry humour that gives every game its own unique flavour.

Safety

How Japes creates a safe table

• There will be a google form for Lines and Veils. This way the full list is brought to the table. • I'm committed to making these games inclusive for every player at the table. • We'll take a 5–10 minute break halfway through the session, plenty of time to top up drinks and snacks. • Should you join after the initial Session 0, we'll have a 1-to-1 session0 before you embark on the adventure. This is a paid session.
