About the adventure

This game will start with a brief and direct adventure arc that will open up into a free-roaming sandbox set in a homebrew world of my creation. Players will begin in a small village in a region known as the "Bay of Whispers". This is a near lawless land between three different nations on the continent of Kha'Lira containing savannas, deserts, jungles, and mountains. New players are welcome! I love to teach and will be happy to show you the ropes. This is a dark campaign setting and will explore dark themes, however I will work with players to learn their boundaries and avoid any personally triggering subject matter.

About me

I've been GMing for over 6 years at this point, and I've run multiple different systems including D&D 5e, VtM V5, Mothership, LANCER, and Shadowdark. I love exploring a variety of genres but horror is a specialty of mine. I have experience with acting/improv so I'm comfortable with roleplay heavy games but I am open to roleplay light games as well. LGBTQIA+ friendly.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be handled on D&D Beyond. I will create a campaign on there in which players can create characters. Players will have access to any content I own on that site. I will be using the 2024 ruleset, so try to keep it compatible and reach out to me if you are unsure. Starting level will be 1, and leveling will be a home-brewed XP system intended to encourage more exploration over strictly combat-based rewards. As for character backstory, I prefer these laid out for me in a list of bullet points with the most important information. The more paragraphs I am presented with, the more likely I will miss or forget something. I will be flexible with my lore, I ask that you be the same with your backstory. I may reach out with changes to make things more seamless with the setting, if something I suggest does not fit your vision or preference, let me know and we can discuss something that will work for all of us. Please refrain from joke characters. You can be funny, but try to respect the immersion of your fellow players. Finally, please no AI generated art. There are plenty of resources to represent your characters without resorting to that, and if all else fails a simple description will suffice.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Play will utilize Foundry VTT: all you will need for that is an invite link and a compatible web browser. Chrome and Firefox have both worked for me. Voice will be through Discord. This can be in browser or with a desktop program, though you will need an account for either. As mentioned you will also need a D&D beyond account for character creation. This is the most convenient way for me to handle leveling.

What Logan Pope brings to the table

I am a former theatre kid, so I tend to put a lot of effort into doing character voices and descriptive roleplay. This is not a requirement for players, do whatever makes you comfortable. I can be a stickler for the rules, but I will ultimately rule in favor of fun for most things. It is important for me to maintain stakes, so most of my harder rulings are in favor of that.

Homebrew rules

I do a lot of little homebrew rulings, but the big ones that are important are as follows: 1. NO DARKVISION! (I know this sounds scary but I like to utilize darkness a lot for atmosphere and horror. Most ancestries are not too harshly affected by this, but if you feel like its a significant nerf to your desired species, talk to me and we can figure out something to replace it.) 2. XP: I have adapted my preferred XP system from Shadowdark with a few minor tweaks. Players receive XP upon finding treasure, completing significant objectives, as well as 1 additional XP point per session. XP to level up is 10 points per level. (To level from 3 to 4 would take 40 XP. To level from 4 to five would take 50.) XP resets to 0 with each level up. 3. I have a homebrew modular Beastfolk species available for this setting if that should interest you.

Safety

How Logan Pope creates a safe table

Primarily safety tools will be handled in Session 0. I will be providing a sheet for lines and veils to be filled out at that time but also they can be discussed openly so everybody is on the same page. I am also always open for direct communication with players and willing to implement tools as needed.
