About the adventure

The Last War has ended, but its shadow extends across Khorvaire. Behind the veil of that shadow, dark forces explore dangerous dreams. A sect of the Becoming God, known to outsiders as the Unravelers, seek truth and their future in the darkened places, in the corners of the world that were meant to be left unsought. Their goals may seem noble: forging their own destiny, probing the nature of life and the soul, seeking absolution and purpose through divinity. But the things they experiment with, the boundaries they push... these are reckless and potentially disastrous roads to travel. These Unravelers have found common cause with an infamous figure of the Last War: Osval Brassek, a rogue artificer exiled for tinkering with magitech practices too extreme, too destructive. So great is the perceived threat of their actions that nearly every major organization in Khorvaire (the Knights Arcane, the Twelve, the Sentinel Marshals, and more) have agreed to act against them. What are they playing with that has drawn such fear? What secret have they stumbled upon that could reshape the world... or destroy it? And what will you do when you find out? Eberron: Dark Artifice is a full-length, open world, sandbox campaign. It will center our heroes and the world will be shaped by the decisions you make. This will be a homebrew campaign within the published Eberron setting. There is not a specific end goal, end date, or end level in mind; the campaign will be open-ended continue as long as the story requires. By default, the game will be balanced between roleplay, combat, and exploration. But it will evolve over the course of the adventure to custom-tailor gameplay to your preferences. This game is beginner-friendly, inclusive, and designed for all types of players.

About me

Hi, I’m Brandon! I’ve been playing TTRPGs for 20 years... well, really much longer than that if you include tiny cameos in my dad's games in the 90's! 😆 But yes, I've been playing D&D since 3rd Edition, and DMing for the better part of 10 years now. I enjoy playing other systems, as well as modifying the D&D system to fit nontraditional settings. I have a degree in game design with a focus on level design, technical art, and environment art. With that comes a passion for mechanics and design, for crafting challenges and encouraging creative gameplay... and also for being surprised when emergent play catches you off-guard. I’m currently running two longform D&D campaigns on Roll20/Discord.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll create characters together in our Session Zero. I'll help you craft deep, compelling, and fun characters that fit the tone and themes of the world that we build together! Characters will be created on D&D Beyond, using the normal character creation rules for D&D 5.5 (2024). You may use Point Buy or Standard Array methods for determining ability scores. We will be beginning at Level 1. By joining our D&D Beyond campaign, you will gain access to all officially published character creation options, including the new Artificer class. I can't wait to see what you create!

Safety

How Brandon // Arcade Abyssal creates a safe table

We will be using Lines & Veils, and be discussing/bringing that document together during Session Zero so that all players are included. I provide aftercare with an open door policy, and by making myself available for at least 15 minutes before and after every game session to speak publicly or privately. I allow for X-cards to be messaged privately or called out over voice/video at any time. I also prefer to employ debriefing and Stars & Wishes for as many players as would like to engage on that level.
