About the adventure
SURE, LET'S GO ALL THE WAY TO HELL. Free the souls of your loved ones! Asmodeus has scattered your friends and family across the infernal realms. Now it is up to you and your allies to fight, bargain, and outwit your way through each of the nine levels of Hell to rescue them. Expect epic stakes, funhouse encounters, and tactical high level play in this rollercoaster of a campaign, culminating in one of D&D’s most brutal endgame encounters. ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN This adventure is an extension of our long time Descent into Avernus game. Because of a recent opening, we are looking for a fifth player. The adventure has been going for a few weeks, but there is still a ton of game left! If you are the kind of person who likes to hit the ground running, this is a great chance to build a high level character and have them slaying archdevils by THIS Tuesday.

About me
I’ve been running TTRPGs for 20 years; from heavy, math driven systems, to more fiction forward style games. That experience has taught me one thing: rules only exist to support player fun. I’m happy to lean into tactical fights, high melodrama, or total chaos, depending on what matters most in the moment. Every session is a collaboration, and I get genuine joy from watching players bring their ideas to life and leave their mark on the story. Outside of the game, I am a teacher. That probably shapes my understanding of fairness, and why I care so much about finding your own voice. No matter your experience or background, my table is a safe, welcoming space to learn and explore. So, if you are worried about being a little weird, or not knowing exactly what to do. Congratulations, you’ve found your people. Let’s roll some dice and make some bad decisions

Creating your character
We will build level one characters as a group during session 0. I'll be there to answer questions and help anyone who needs it. Stats will be assigned using a standard array. Race and class options from most official sources are ok, including Tasha's but excluding Eberron. 3rd party content is probably OK too but ask me first.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Technical preparation: • The big thing here is that you need a computer with a stable internet connection and a reliable way for us to hear your voice. We are using Discord for audio. You can download it for free if you don’t have it already. The computer version works great if you have a microphone, otherwise, you can put it on your phone and use earbuds. You will also need to make a free account on Roll20.net. This doesn’t require any additional downloads. All services will be provided through the browser Social Preparation: • This is a game that we are all playing to have fun. You should be excited to play and also be excited for other people to join you and have fun as well. Players should arrive with an attitude of friendly cooperation. • Previous Dungeons and Dragons experience is not a requirement to join. However, players can prepare for the game by familiarizing themselves with basic gameplay concepts such as rolling different-sided dice and using the 6 stats on your character sheet. One-on-one: • I’d like to schedule a short 5-10 minute conversation over Discord sometime before session 0. Just to introduce myself, answer any questions you might have, and smooth over any snags before we jump into the game.
What Emil brings to the table
I will bring the adventure, core DnD rules, official and unofficial supplemental materials, and a huge amount of enthusiasm. I love the Nine Hells as a setting, and DiA specifically has been one of my favorite official module to run. I have a lot of experience playing and developing the setting. I will bring technical knowledge as well as passion to every session. After you sign up, I'll send a link to the game and all you need to do is log on to have access to everything.

How Emil creates a safe table
Descent into Avernus dives into the infernal depths of the Nine Hells, exploring themes of sin, redemption, and the struggle between good and evil. Given the intense and sometimes grim subject matter, it’s important to create a safe and comfortable environment for all players. I believe we can navigate these darker themes in a way that is both engaging and respectful, ensuring the experience remains enjoyable for everyone. To achieve this, trust and clear communication between the DM and players are essential. When you sign up, I’ll provide a confidential lines and veils document to help anonymously identify any content you want to avoid. During our Session 0, we’ll discuss everyone’s responses and use them as a springboard to talk about the DM style and tone we want to set for the campaign. Your comfort is a top priority. Players are encouraged to use the X-card and the open-door policy at any time and for any reason. Whether you need to pause the game, address a concern, or discuss anything else, please feel free to speak up. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels safe and supported as we embark on this epic journey through The Nine Hells together.
