About the adventure

A ride on the Ghostlight Express will take you into the unknown, where long-forgotten terrors await both you and others who pass beyond the veil of death. The land of Druskenvald is not for the faint of heart, and its inhabitants are often unfriendly to outsiders. Yet, your fate has become tied to this realm as you face supernatural dangers, solve mysteries, and forge your own folktale beneath the sinister gaze of the Crooked Moon. ----------- You are about to embark on a dark and dangerous journey into a world filled with cults, hag covens, ghosts, and other eerie creatures. Face the strange and terrifying at your own pace in this play-by-post adventure, which draws inspiration from "The Wicker Man" and "Over the Garden Wall." That old black train is coming to take you there.

About me

I'm just your average 30-something guy living out in the sticks of the Black Hills with a love of stories and adventure. Whether you're looking to use new rules for your D&D games, learning to play tabletop RPGs, or just looking for a late-night one-shot, my services are open to run your sessions and roll some dice with friends and strangers alike! Ever since a friend let me read a 3rd Edition Monster Manual at summer camp, I've been captivated by D&D lore. I decided to share this passion by starting my own games, gathering friends and family to play with starter kits. Over time, I've explored settings like the Mists of Ravenloft and the Islands of Kozakura, learning from the characters and stories they presented. After years of experience, I am now here to help you bring your tale to life! I am curious about what you will bring to the table, and I will be more than happy to guide you into the world of TTRPGs! I offer a variety of discounts to players who purchase my services. These include "Half-Off Holidays", "BOGOHO Buddies", and "DnDate Nights". Check with me to qualify. Now offering FREE first sessions! If you are in the Northern Black Hills area, I am also offering in-person sessions to reserve. I can be hired for one-shots, parties, or just a simple gathering of friends to roll dice and tell stories. Just tell me the place and time, and I'll see if I can arrange my schedule to make a good game night!

Character creation

Creating your character

Here are some guidelines for character creation: - We will use Roll20's character creator (2014 or 2024) to simplify building your adventurer, or start from scratch, or choose a ready-to-play character they've provided. - Stats will be determined by the standard array or rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest die. - For beginners, I will assist in any way I can to help with character building and understanding mechanics along the way. - You can use the rules provided in the Roll20 compendium. However, you can inquire about using other references that can be edited into your sheet as well.

The current party

Candeska "Candie" Romonov - Level 4 Infernal Tiefling Psion Amaranth - Level 4 Harvestborn Wicker Druid The party has left the Crooked House and is deciding where to go next. They have picked up a scarecrow, who lost his voice to an evil fey in the form of a grinning cat. Meanwhile, the Wickermoor Hollow is celebrating the upcoming harvest in a bloody fashion.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need: - A Discord account for the server. - A Roll20 account to access the table and sheets. Optional: - Beyond20 extension to use D&D Beyond sheets. - Any other content you want to bring to the table.

What Curtis brings to the table

- A private Discord server for players to chat and make posts at their own pace. - Daily posts to keep the story going. - A Roll20 pro account that allows the use of a map for reference with battles and dungeon crawls, the rules compendium, dynamic lighting, and the new Jumpgate features to improve the flow of gameplay. - Both the old and updated rules for 5e. - Additional books and PDFs that can be used as references. - Background music from various sources, including The Blasting Company.

Homebrew rules

As an action, you can throw a potion of healing at a point up to 60 feet away, where the bottle smashes and spills its contents. Each creature in a 5-foot-radius Sphere centered on that point is healed as if they drank the potion. ----------------------- You can use heroic inspiration to draw from the inspiration deck and gain an additional effect in combat.

How Curtis creates a safe table

This is an open-door campaign, so players can come and go as required. Please inform me in advance if you won't attend a session or need to leave early. I also have the table open for stars and wishes for comments on what works and what needs to be improved for future sessions. I'm always looking for ways to make sure my players are enjoying their time at the table. Players who disrespect these rules receive two warnings, after which the offender will be removed.
