About the adventure
The frontier town of Phandalin is rough-and-tumble but hardworking. Positioned a day's travel off of the Sword Coast it is the most recent town to join the Lord's Alliance. After a string of mismanagement a new governor has been appointed. With the town being fairly removed from the nearest major city of Neverwinter they've got their work cut out for them. Their first order of business? Establish an Adventuring Guild to maintain peace in the region. Your characters have come to Phandalin to staff this adventuring guild. Decide how and why your PCs have come here. Are you allies of the new governor come to help him realise his dream of raising Phandalin as a center of society on the Sword Coast? Did word of this new guildhall reach you in your homeland? Do you know something I (the DM) don't know? Whatever the case we'll discuss over session 0 and if youd like to flesh something out then over Direct message before then. The dungeons and Lairs of *Where Evil Lives* will be the path to the central tension of the campaign with rising threats appearing with each level. Besides that, I'm open to folks pitching their own sidequests in a more sandboxy way with the knowledge that once you're ready to proceed you come back to your guildhall, open the quest mailbox, and move towards the next levelup milestone. This is going to be a combat heavy campaign with opportunity to have your character backstory inform any sidequests your party might decide to pursue. Lmk if y'all have any question. Looking forward to getting into it!

About me
With nearly 4k hours logged into Roll20 and a number of adventures under my belt, I am an experienced DM who enjoys designing engaging sessions and building a joint story. I got introduced to D&D via liveplay podcasts and enjoying other ttrpg's with friends. As friends began moving away from our city we began adding online boardgames to our rotation and eventually I was introduced to 5e through joining several games. Eventually I took the plunge and began DM'ing for groups or friends then eventually groups of strangers met on LFG forums.

What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using roll20 for VTT and discord for audio and handouts.
What Hugo brings to the table
Background music, tactical combat, resources shared on Roll20. You can expect background integration if you're someone who enjoys developing character storylines.
Homebrew rules
- Flavor is free - Components for spells are only significant if they have a gold cost attached (e.g., Revivify). - Roll OR take avg HP on levelup. You may reroll 1's if you choose to roll. - Flanking grants a flat +2 to melee attack rolls - Some homebrew might be ok. Just DM it to me for review. - Unearthed Arcana (including playtest material) and any homebrew needs to be approved before use. - setting specific feats, backgrounds, etc should be approved before use. - For low level campaigns please ask before using a race with an innate fly speed - Long rests gives you back HALF your total hit dice (rounded up) - DM/heroic Inspiration is something I hand out for good roleplay, making me laugh ingame, and generally being a good team player. BEFORE you make a roll, announce that you will be using your DM inspiration to roll with advantage on an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. - This is the doc I use for base magic item prices: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8XAiXpOfz9cMWt1RTBicmpmUDg/view?resourcekey=0-ceHUken0_UhQ3Apa6g4SJA Banned features: - "Silvery Barbs" spell - No spells with "conjure" in the name. Conjure Barrage is the except - Twilight & Peace Clerics - Evil aligned characters - Shadarkai
