About the adventure

There’s a hole in the ground, right in the middle of the famous tavern The Yawning Portal. It leads to the most vast dungeon in all of the Sword Coast. Make a greedy character with loose ties to the world — just a bag of hit points ready to dive headfirst into adventure! Dungeons & Dragons was born to be a dungeon-exploring game, and its mechanics are still perfectly tailored for that. Lost a character? Make a new one, one level lower, and keep going — there’s always more fresh meat coming down the Yawning Portal! Level up with XP, giving you every incentive to plunder every corner of this maze-like complex. Oh, and it’s a very funny adventure, too! Why not embrace the ridiculousness of this gigantic, mad dungeon-exploration bonanza and dial it up to 100? Let’s laugh, fight, find lost artifacts, hide from devils, side with wacky factions, meet strange people, die, and start all over again! Let’s jump into the Dungeon of the Mad Mage!!! 🧭 Important Advice: Bring a towel, snacks, a set of spare clothes, an abacus (not for counting — the goblins might like it), a rope, another rope, and a third rope in case someone forgets theirs. Also bring hope (not to be confused with a rope. Can you imagine bringing four ropes? MADNESS!), two differently scented soap bars, spare shoelaces, and a canteen filled with a liquid of your choice. ⚔️ Optional: Weapons for protection. Common sense.

About me

I'm a Brazilian biologist and a longtime GM. I've been running RPGs for the better part of the last couple of decades, and I consider myself quite successful at it. I've run just about everything—from the most famous games to local one-page RPGs. I've played at conventions, professionally, on streams, and for hundreds of newcomers. I love bringing people into the hobby, and I consider that my strongest skill as a GM. If you want to explore the world of RPGs, try out a new game, or return to a hobby you once loved, I would be delighted and honored to help. Character creation

Creating your character

The adventure wil start at level 5. You’re welcome to bring a ready-made character, or I can help you create one beforehand. My suggestion: Use content from the basic books up to Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. I think that keeps things at a good power level for the campaign. If you really want to use something else, just talk to me. We can work it out together.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You just need to join the Discord server and the Roll20 table. If the players have access to TaleSpire, it can be used as well. If possible, please provide an image of your character so I can make their token. Discord link: https://discord.gg/m4U5bbdg Roll20 link: https://app.roll20.net/join/20496177/0myv9w

What Gabriel (Mr. Sun ☀️) brings to the table

Theater of the Mind is used during exploration, and I encourage players to make their own maps of the dungeon based on my descriptions. For combat, however, every level of the dungeon is fully mapped and prepared with dynamic lighting. Combats will use a grid and visual elements. You’ll hear a lot of monster voices and weird speech! I can confirm it’s a ton of fun to run this dungeon in that regard. The sessions might take an episodic approach, allowing players to change characters between sessions just for fun. New players are also very easy to integrate into the game. Think of this table as a Dungeon of the Mad Mage Exploration Guild. If you find something interesting in one session but don’t have enough time to fully explore it, or you struggle with a particular challenge, write it down in your notes, prepare in advance, and maybe even convince a couple more friends to join the crew next time.

Safety

How Gabriel (Mr. Sun ☀️) creates a safe table

We’re here to have fun, and safety tools help us avoid unpleasant situations. We’ll use a few tools to ensure everyone feels comfortable and happy. I’ll send you an anonymous form where you can list your lines and veils for the game. Lines are hard boundaries — things you don’t want included at all. If you set a line, I’ll make sure it stays out of our game entirely. Veils are soft limits — themes that may appear but won’t be the focus or shown in detail. Also, feel free to take a break at any time or let me know if something comes up that you’re not okay with. It’s only a good game if it’s good for everyone.
