About the adventure

Every night the Bloodmists would rise from the ground around the village of Oakford. Legends say this was not always so, but those are just legends. No one in living memory has ever ventured more than a half days travel from the village. No one sane, at least, and they're the lucky ones. Most who braved the mists were simply never seen again. Most of those found were torn to pieces by unknown beasts and their shredded, dismembered remains discovered beneath a wheeling cloud of carrion crows. The handful who did find their way back seemingly left their wits somewhere in the mists. They may as well have left their tongues too because most never spoke a sane word again. But now the Bloodmists are gone. Seemingly so, at least, because not a single villager or farmer has seen them rise in three weeks. Even so life continues in Oakford just as if the nightly rise of the mists were a certainty. Late every afternoon the village folk, almost ritualistically, retreat to their homes and bar their doors 'til mornings light. The missing mists are all anyone is talking about. What happened? What does it mean for the Village? For the villagers? For YOU? Oakford is your life. It's all you have ever known. The Sheriff says Oakford is in more danger now than ever. The Druids say that the land is finally healing from the great wars of legend. Some few of the Returned who still talk say that the Demons who made the mists are gone now. Others that the mists protected the village from the demons & the mists lifting means the gods are all dead and the village is next. Something is different now that is certain. But what is best for Oakford? For the villagers? For YOU? And who do YOU trust to decide?

About me

My name is David and I'm a forever-GM. I was bitten by the big, bad red box at age nine and the rest, as they say, is history. I've been playing and running tabletop RPGs for 45 years and it is still my passion. I have also always enjoyed teaching new players and systems. Teaching others to play and GM has always struck me as the best way to be a good custodian to the hobby. Something I became mindful of after owning an LGS for a few years. Over the decades I have gotten a lot of practice writing and running several popular IP based RPGs. I'm particularly fond of the Star Wars, Star Trek, The One Ring & Warhammer 40k campaigns I've been fortunate enough to GM in the last two decades. On a more recent note, I have begun running Forbidden Lands campaigns. I've fallen completely for the setting and the system. Free League really outdid their selves with that particular work. The last few months I have been learning my way around Foundry VTT. I couldn't think of a better way to learn the VTT than run something on it. So, that's a glimpse into my past and a word about my present. As for the future, I sincerely look forward towards meeting more of the community here. See you at the table, David

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done using the Forbidden Lands Players guide. If any player wants to get a head start feel free to message me your build choices and I'll throw it all on a sheet before the game starts. I encourage this. Its a simple system. For anyone else I'll be on Discord 90 minutes before go-time. Feel free to message me there and I'll zip you an invite to Foundry to square up characters with me there.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Any youtube video on player basics for Foundry should be enough for those unfamiliar with the VTT. Anyone who wants to get a head start on the ruleset should feel free to check out the Forbidden Lands Players Guide. We will address our one-shot session zero about 15 minutes before launch.

What Fire Mountain brings to the table

I'm expecting most will be new to the system so we will be using the rules as written. It's a survival game and meant to have teeth, after all. Anyone familiar with Year Zero will be able to dive right in and swim. I'm usually a Theater of the Mind type, but I'll have battle maps for any combat I anticipate with this one. I do voices. Often poorly. Feel free to smile, laugh, point and laugh or groan in misery. I'm cool with all of it. This one shot is a preface to my two Forbidden Lands campaigns currently running. The Stubborn, the Steady & the Strong AND Raven's Purge. The second one still has a few open seats. Anyone who plays the one shot and then joins Raven's Purge will get a $5.00 discount on their first session. That's pretty much all there is to it. This is a introductory adventure to the base Forbidden Lands setting. It's meant to give you the opportunity to get a feel for the system and setting. I am very much looking forward to running games for and getting to know members of the startplaying player community. Thank you for your time and consideration and have an outstanding day!

Safety

How Fire Mountain creates a safe table

It's a one-shot so these are a cinch. Aftercare will consist of a short Q&A centering around constructive criticism and favorite moments. If a player needs me to call a break (other than the 10 minute break at the halfway point) feel free to message me or just signal an x or t (time out) with your hands on video. I'm new to VTT's so if I don't see you immediately feel free to simply step away and mute your sound.
