About the adventure
* No commitment necessary- Play once and dip or skip games when you need to. We'll be here when you're ready to game. * 1:1 Time- Spend your time wisely because it's passing just like real life. If you don't manage to figure out how to get the jewel out of the statue, some other party may beat you to it. * Run multiple characters- Planning to tackle the dungeon of a thousand locked doors next session? Everybody play a Thief this week. Is your favorite Magic-User with the +2 dagger laid up with rat-bite-fever or stuck on bedrest regaining HP after being stepped on by an ogre? You're still in the game, just roll up a Fighter while her bones knit and maybe you'll find a wand of fireball to gift-wrap for her. * 1 XP for each Gold Piece recovered- You'll advance quicker if you know when to gamble with your life. The deeper in to the earth you go, the deadlier the residents, but the richer the rewards. Half the party was eaten by an owlbear? That's rough, but rent's due on the first and talk is cheap. * Combat is fast and deadly- There are no fair fights here. Don't be afraid to leg it if you're outmatched. Also initiative is side based, so there is no need to wait for the rogue to adjust his plan for the turn now that goblin #8 has decided to move **here** instead of **there** . * 1st level characters can croak if you look at them the wrong way, so don't get too attached. But fear not, you can carry over some of your XP so you'll make progress, even if you have to take two steps forward and one step back once in awhile. This is an oldschool open table game focusing on procedural dungeon crawling and overland exploration that I intend to run for as many people as possible, veterans and newbies alike. There is no preset path or narrative. Just an open world made up ,wholecloth, for you to delve in to and rearrange to your liking. You'll need to join the Discord as a hub for reading houserules and swapping intel with fellow players. We'll use Owlbear Rodeo for quick-and-dirty mapping and impromptu pictionary. Character sheets will be shared over Google. The ruleset is a restatement of the D&D ruleset from 1981 (and available in a free SRD online), which was meant to be an introduction to the game for kids, so it's easy to jump in to. What are you waiting for? Come bash some monsters and take their stuff.

About me
Howdy. I've been gaming since I was ten. My primary interests are TSR D&D, the Oldschool Revival, and Classic Adventure Gaming. After Covid I started running public open-table games at my LGS for three years and played with over 50 different people. I started running volunteer games at small conventions near me and in October 25 took up stewardship of a small oldschool gaming convention.

Creating your character
Characters can be created during the first session a player joins or before the game if available. Players will have the option of selecting a pre-generated character or rolling up their own. Players can select a pregen of any class that will have neither stat bonuses nor penalties. If players opt to roll up their own characters they must roll the ability scores in order and then choose a class that they meet the requirements for. Stats below a combined total of 57 can be rerolled which will weed out the worst of the duds. Rolling the stats in order may seem restrictive, but it affects the spread of each class generated. It also means that most people will wind up playing every class and therefore get to engage with the game in new ways. For those stuck playing a class they can't stand, there are retirement rules that allow a character to retire early and guarantee the next character generated can be any class with a bonus to XP as a reward for sticking it out. When choosing character alignment you must consider that Lawfully aligned characters cannot play alongside Chaotically aligned characters. So players will have to come to a consensus when they are choosing which of their characters to run during the session.
Play any of the 7 race-as-class options with pregens available, or roll up a statline and see what you're stats make you eligible to play. You'll likely have one or two characters at once if you play for a few sessions. The party will probably vary in levels.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need Discord and a good attitude. The rules are available online at https://oldschoolessentials.necroticgnome.com/srd/index.php/Main_Page Read them or don't. I'm not a cop.
What Andrew brings to the table
I'll be using pretty basic maps done in MSpaint and Dungeonscrawl. But all of them are homemade and not from modules. I'll provide an in-game calendar to help track the 1:1 time events. As well as tracking players on a yearly leaderboard by how much gold they were able to retrieve that year.
Homebrew rules
I blend in quite a few houserules from AD&D. Some small, like rules for two-weapon fighting, and some larger like porting over hireling rules.
