About the adventure

Set in the Tempest Realms: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/the-tempest-realm-karlzone Last year the Wednesday Knights defeated the dragon that took over Biggityburg. Now the city rebuilds, with new trouble and challenges. Join the Wednesday Knights and take part in one of many adventures they have in and around Biggityburg. Make new friends and enemies, and most importantly, defeat monsters and claim loot! Wednesday Knights will be a series of one-shots (no commitment beyond a single one-shot required) where the players can select from a number of pre-built characters to quickly jump into the game. Once you pick a character that character is yours, meaning if you join a future one-shot in the series you can play the same character with all the loot and magic items they got from the other one-shots they participated in the series. Each one-shot is built to be completed in 1& 1/2 hours, but like all D&D games allow up to 3 hours as things can go off the rails. Each one-shot will have a clear goal to complete with, in most cases, an obvious route to complete the goal. Each session will contain combat (unless the players out smart me!) and some role-play elements. The whole setup for these one-shots is that they should be easy for an experienced player to jump in with minimum preparation. We are also new player friendly, though I would suggest new players pick up a martial class or have discussion about the character they want to play with the Game Master. These one-shots will be run under the D&D 5e (5e 2014) rules.

About me

Hi. My name is Karl and I am a Professional Game Master from New Zealand. I specialise in 5th Edition (2014) Dungeons and Dragons, using Discord and Roll20 to run my games. I have a thorough knowledge of the rules and have a pragmatic approach to their application - with the 'Rule of Cool' being applied at the appropriate time. I run my games with a sense of humour. Even in the most serious games I think it is important that we laugh, because we are supposed to be having fun!

Character creation

Creating your character

The players will pick from a range of pre-built characters. There will be a range of at least 6 different characters built covering a range of classes, races, and backgrounds from the PHB and other resources. Returning players may carry on playing the same character complete with loot from earlier one-shots, or select a new character and retire their old character.

The current party

Episode 1 (Season 3) of the Wednesday Knights series (no prior knowledge needed). Emmek Irontongue, the Wednesday Knights' dockside informant, has contacted Lady Wednesday about an issue at a poorer section of the docks. Every night for the past week a swarm of zombies have wandered the docks, attacking people who get too close, and would wander off before sunrise. Join the Wednesday Knights as they investigate and defeat this undead menace. Pick from one of six pre-built characters to jump into this fast paced one-shot full of combat and shenanigans. Returning players are welcome to carry forward their existing characters or try someone new. New players are welcome to raid the armoury, claiming any unclaimed magic items. The players will need a working microphone and access to discord and Roll20. I would recommend they log into Roll20 early to select a character (first-in first-served basis) and to check the Roll20 handouts which will have details of which rules are in play, which rules are not, and what homebrew rules will be included to speed up combat. The players will need to log in to the Discord server and have selected their character at least 30 minutes before the start time of the game. This game is being run under the Dungeons and Dragons 5E (2014) rules. You are welcome to check out the World Anvil account about the setting: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/the-tempest-realm-karlzone

What Karl Zone brings to the table

Everything is supplied between Roll20, World Anvil, and Discord. The games are designed to be minimal pre-game preparation by the players.

Homebrew rules

Consuming a Healing Potion of any level yourself is considered a bonus action. All other potions are considered an action. Bringing out a carried pet in combat requires an action. To pick them up again requires an action. Resurrection - The Fading Spirit rule is in play. From time to time, at the Game Master's discretion, the 'Rule of Cool' will be applied. There is no Experience or Leveling. Instead the party will be rewarded with Renown based on completing quests and heroic actions. Gaining rewards opens up additional rewards for your character. The players can also upgrade the Wednesday Knights Guild Hall which grants various bonuses.

Safety

How Karl Zone creates a safe table

The games will be fast paced and to the point, each game focused on the quest provided in the introduction of the one-shot. Because of the setup of these games, everything will be run RAW (Rules As Written) with exceptions where ROC (Rule Of Cool) will be applied. The DM asks that as each player signs up to the game and gets invited to the group Discord to inform the DM of any potential triggering subject matters - that way the DM can adjust the one-shot or give the player the option to pull out of the game. Players will be given a brief 'session 0' at the start of each one-shot to outline any potential triggers. Should anything problematic come up during the game, we will approach them in a pragmatic manner.
