About the adventure

A series of oneshots designed for you to try out different classes, species, mechanics and playstyles. Try this out if you've ever said something like the following... I wanted to join a D&D game at my local game store, but I: - felt too nervous - didn't want to slow everyone down - was too worried about messing up I can help! Oneshots are great for learning to play D&D. PLAYER TOPICS: - Character creation and advancement - Reading a character sheet - Important rules and mechanics - Roleplaying - Foundry VTT basics Me and my 40+ years of D&D experience will be right there with you every step of the way. My goal is to share this great hobby with you and get you over the hurdle of how and where to start. BONUS: Book one-on-one sessions for digging deeper on things you're interested in!

About me

"What do you do?" is one of the most magical phrases in all of gaming. I've been playing and running tabletop games since the D&D cartoon aired. D&D in particular, even as a flawed system in its many iterations, has been a decades long golden thread connecting great things in my life. One of my first jobs was at a game store and I remember selling a Concerned Mom on the magic of D&D based on its promise of social engagement, math, and creativity all in a bundle. I stand by that decades later. Systems I've loved: - Bunnies & Burrows - Palladium's TMNT - Shadowrun - D&D 2e, 4e, 5e, 5.5e D&D in every incarnation has held a special place in my heart. Let's play!

Character creation

Creating your character

For the first few sessions, we'll play with pre-generated characters. But let's talk before the campaign starts about what sorts of characters you're interested in. When we get to character generation, we'll talk about what you want to play long term and the whole group will build characters together.

The current party

Level 2, Human Rogue (Soulknife) Level 2, Goliath Monk (Warrior of the Open Hand) Level 2, Dragonborn Ranger (TBD) Level 2, Human Artificer (Cartographer) Level 2, Halfling Bard (College of Glamour) Level 3, Barbarian (Berserker)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Book a 1:1 session with me (no charge) to discuss what you're looking for. I have a survey folks fill out, but I also like to talk to people before Session 0. You just need to bring yourself and any questions you have or you can be a totally blank slate. I can work with any level of experience up to and including the very technically challenged. Required: Discord, D&D Beyond Used: Foundry VTT (you'll only need an internet browser, no download, account, or app required)

What heysparky (Karen) brings to the table

I will provide 40+ years of D&D experience plus 10 years of teaching people about digital tools for creative and technical pursuits. Plus maps, published adventures, and professional audio. The laughs are a lagniappe!
