About the adventure

Drakkenheim Awaits Fifteen years ago, a storm of falling stars obliterated the proud city of Drakkenheim. The impact shattered the city, littering it with shards of it's destruction that now warp the land and those that linger within the toxic miasma that now envelopes the ruins. Today the once great landmark is now barely more than a haunted wasteland where corrupted monsters prowl broken streets and poisonous delirium crystals whisper promises of impossible power. Adventurers flock to this shattered city in search of treasure, lost knowledge, and artifacts said to be of world shaking might. Some hope to rebuild the fallen realm from the ashes, others to profit from its anarchy, and still others seek to study or destroy the strange magic left behind. Yet, all who enter have to confront the realities of not only of rival factions and horrors born of the mist, but the creeping risk of contamination itself. Few return unchanged, and fewer still unscarred from from their experiences within the haze. This campaign begins at levels 3, using the 2024 rules, and goes all the way to level 13, maybe higher. The story is one of survival, intrigue, and cosmic revelation. You will carve your legend amid collapsing cathedrals, gang ridden alleys, arcane towers, and the yawning crater where reality itself frays. Factions vie for your allegiance, each with their own vision for the future of Drakkenheim. Your choices will decide who thrives, who falls, and whether the city becomes a reborn capital, a cursed quarry, or a beacon for a new age. All official content is available, alongside new ancestries, backgrounds, and feats tailored for the Drakkenheim setting. Expect peril, moral dilemmas, and unforgettable encounters in a world where every expedition could change the balance of power. Do you dare step into the haze and claim the ashes of a broken city?

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen before session one so that our first game can dive straight into the story. We will begin at level 3 with standard starting equipment. You may use material from the Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, and other official 5e sources. Additional options from the Dungeons of Drakkenheim book, such as new ancestries, backgrounds, and feats, are also available. Stats will be generated using point buy or standard array, whichever you prefer. Characters will be tied into the world through personal quests, faction connections, and rumors that link you directly to the mysteries of Drakkenheim. I’ll provide guidance during a short pre-game session to ensure your characters are connected both to each other and to the factions vying for control of the ruined city.

The current party

Currently everyone level 3 we have: - High Elf Cleric - Bugbear Paladin - Work in progress Fighter

What Burt! brings to the table

I provide a game that balances dangerous exploration, faction intrigue, and cinematic combat. Expect a mix of survival horror atmosphere and highstakes decision making, where every expedition into the ruins feels perilous and meaningful. I lean into tactical combat that uses terrain, hazards, and monster intelligence, but I also embrace the Rule of Cool when a bold idea fits the drama of the moment. I bring the world to life with NPC voices, evocative descriptions, and ambient music that underscores both the eerie quiet of the haze and the chaos of battle. Faction leaders will feel distinct, their motives clear, and their reactions tied directly to the choices you make. Between expeditions, downtime is meaningful, giving you a chance to recover, pursue personal goals, and strengthen ties to the factions. You can expect me to run a game that rewards creativity, teamwork, and risk taking. The rules matter, but story and tension come first. The city will change based on your actions, and together we’ll create a tale of survival, betrayal, and mythic discovery that carries your characters from start to finish.

Safety

How Burt! creates a safe table

Player safety and comfort are my top priority. Before play begins, I’ll send each player a digital Lines and Veils checklist so everyone can set boundaries on content and tone. We’ll hold a short Session 0 where we establish group expectations, talk about safety tools, review the dark-fantasy themes of Drakkenheim, and discuss how your characters know each other. During play, I use the X, N, and O cards digitally (through chat or a quick message if we’re online, or on-screen signals if we’re on video). Anyone can pause or rewind a scene at any time. After intense or emotional sessions, I do a brief aftercare check-in to make sure everyone is feeling good about what happened in game and has a chance to give feedback. My goal is to create a tense, atmospheric story without making the players uncomfortable. Everyone at the table should feel empowered, respected, and excited to come back for the next session.
