About the adventure

Monster Hunter International (MHI) [NOTE: Not Monster Hunter World, different IP] is a world where monsters are real, dangerous, and everywhere. Vampires, werewolves, and worse hide in plain sight while ordinary people sleep unaware. When the claws come out, MHI answers the call. You are one of the elite, a professional monster hunter trained to handle the impossible and walk away with a paycheck. This is a game of action, danger, and pure monster-hunting wish fulfillment. The hunters are not victims or bystanders. They are the best of the best: tactically skilled, well-equipped, and unshakably confident in the face of the unknown. You have the weapons, the knowledge, and the courage to take down nightmares and cash the bounty. The setting combines modern firepower with supernatural threats, blending military tactics, mystery, and horror. Expect shootouts with undead horrors, hunts through haunted forests, and battles against ancient powers that refuse to stay buried. Every hunt is a test of skill, guts, and teamwork. This game is for players who enjoy fast-paced combat, sharp wit, and larger-than-life heroes. It is the thrill of being the one who runs toward the monster when everyone else runs away. Grab your weapon, check your gear, and get ready to prove why MHI always gets the job done.

About me

I have been playing and running games for 20+ years and I love running games for more than I like playing in them. I claim the title of forever GM and I love it. I enjoy being the gamemaster and I have spent hours and hours reading books and practicing my craft. I have been running games for friends for most of my life, but I have also been going to conventions and running wild and fantastic one-shots. I love running games with a tactical and tactile space, including curated landing pages and minis with maps in the online space. I also love having props and things available for players in a physical space. Finally, I am a mental health professional so safety is at the forefront of all of my games. I understand that mental health is physical health. I am open and accepting, wanting everyone to feel like they have a space and a voice at the table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during Session Zero, where players will work together with the Game Master to bring their hunters to life. This session will cover concept discussion, character mechanics, and group connections to ensure a cohesive and exciting team. The GM will be available to assist anyone who needs help navigating the rules or refining their character ideas. This campaign uses a blend of the Savage Worlds Core Rulebook, the Horror Companion, and the Super Powers Companion, drawing from each to capture the high-octane action and supernatural intensity of Monster Hunter International. Players are encouraged to create skilled, confident, and larger-than-life professionals who excel in their field. All characters will begin at Novice Rank, and creation will be handled through Roll20 for ease of play and recordkeeping.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

In preparation for this game, all players will need active accounts for Roll20 and Discord. Both platforms are free to use and can be accessed directly through your web browser, though desktop apps are recommended for improved performance and stability. Roll20 will be used to manage character sheets, combat maps, dice rolls, and other in-game mechanics. It provides a shared virtual tabletop where all players can see the action unfold. Discord will serve as the main hub for communication, including voice chat during sessions, announcements, and between-game discussions. A dedicated Discord server will be provided for the group. This will include organized channels for scheduling, roleplay discussions, resources, and session logs to help everyone stay connected and in character between games. Players are encouraged to check in regularly, collaborate, and contribute to the shared experience. Whether you are joining from a computer or mobile device, make sure both platforms are tested and ready before Session Zero. Good communication and access to these tools will ensure smooth gameplay and an immersive experience for everyone.

What Jacob “Jake” Stick brings to the table

What you can expect from me as your Game Master is an engaging, story-driven experience that highlights both your character’s strengths and your creative ideas. Your Monster Hunter’s background, goals, and style will matter, and I will work to weave them naturally into the ongoing narrative. You can expect a balance of character-driven storytelling, supernatural mystery, and high-octane action that rewards clever thinking and teamwork. There will be plenty of tactical maps, dynamic encounters, and cinematic moments designed to make every session feel like a scene straight out of a blockbuster monster movie. Combat will be fast, intense, and meaningful, but never without purpose. Every mission connects to a larger story that unfolds through your actions and decisions. I bring over 20 years of experience running tabletop roleplaying games and have a strong command of the Savage Worlds system. My goal is to make the rules work for the story, not against it. I run games that are structured, fair, and flexible, encouraging creative solutions, bold heroics, and the occasional bit of glorious chaos that makes the game memorable. Above all, my goal is to make sure everyone at the table has fun, feels included, and gets their moments to shine. You bring the hunter, I will bring the monsters.

Homebrew rules

The game will include special rules for character creation, which will be discussed in detail during Session Zero. These rules are designed to help capture the tone of Monster Hunter International—a world of elite professionals, supernatural threats, and intense action. Players will have the opportunity to tailor their hunters to fit both the tactical and narrative tone of the campaign while ensuring that every member of the team feels distinct, capable, and essential. The campaign will use the following Savage Worlds Setting Rules: Conviction, Downtime, Dynamic Backlash, Environmental Phenomena, Fanatics, Gritty Damage, and the Wealth System. These rules combine to create a fast, cinematic, and dangerous world where every decision matters.
