About the adventure
In a world where aquatic fiends rise from deep sea trenches and multi-eyed, eldritch angels descend amongst maddening storms, one couldn't be faulted for wanting to stay on land. While sparser that the archipelagoes expansive seas, land, at least, offers a less torturous afterlife than if the waters claimed your life. For some however, the innumerable perils of the waves are just another part of the swashbuckling adventure where gold flows from ancient tombs and shanties sing of legendary pirates. Requiring a large amount of courage, any who do take to the waves and survive its dangers are sure to uncover a great many riches alongside some dark and terrible secrets. Welcome all! This adventure, while full of classical, seafaring adventures to tropical islands and ancient treasure-filled tombs, is sure to include some new twists on the convention pirate/sailor experience. With a fresh cosmology and expansive afterlife system, any players looking to explore the more spiritual/chthonic aspect of the world will find their interests rewarded, more so when some of the more striking dangers of the waves venture from adjacent planes. With an emphasis on fun, action and adventure, the plot will often give way for a chance at mystery and intrigue and players will get the chance to become the crew they would like to be, either by following in the footsteps of great pirate legends or through a new means entirely.

About me
Hey all, as a writer and hobbyist I love filling my time with the making and playing of TTRPGs. Those who wish to journey through my games alongside me can expect ample player focused worldbuilding, engaging narratives and an emphasis on having the best time possible. Whether you're a strength based wizard pushing rule zero to it's limit or a number crunching power builder, I pride myself on ensuring everybody has a place in the story and will do my best to ensure everyone is getting what they want out of any adventure!

Creating your character
A Session 0 will take place to go over the more intricate details of character creation but players looking to experiment in advance should keep in mind the setting and theme when creating characters. There isn't much off the table but if there anything you are unsure of, feel free to reach out. Staring at level 3, 2014 rules with point buy stats as the base, there are loads of options for characters both intertwined and independent with the narrative so be sure to reach out with your ambitions for the game!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The game will take place on Roll20 with the voice call on Discord so be sure to have accounts on each. DndBeyond will be used to curate characters and allow content sharing for more character options but feel free to utilize another method if you prefer.
What Sam brings to the table
I'll be bringing music, maps and character voices to ramp up the immersion in game and I tend to embrace the Rule of Cool over set-in-stone rulings; that being said, I'll be sure to utilize the rules to occasionally create challenging encounters so players looking for some intense scenes will be rewarded for effective builds. Like always, the amount of these scenes will vary depending on the party composition and the goals of the players to ensure nobody is blindsided by encounters that are too intense or too easy.
Homebrew rules
Bonus actions potions and reactionary Inspiration are two examples of common homebrew rules that I prefer in my campaigns. Any extra ones will be communicated during character creation as they become apparent, an example being "Heroic Last Stands" that could give players a chance to do one final dramatic turn should their characters fail their final death save.

Safety
How Sam creates a safe table
In addition to a general code of conduct on the discord, I'll reach out to players with an more detailed document of do's and don'ts that we be further elaborated on in session 1/0. We will discus the aspects of play that are off limits, themes and subject matters that will be avoided initially but have the potential to be introduced going forward and any additional steps the players can take to communicate their own needs. This document will also include means of slowing or pausing sessions to return to a zone of comfort, should any barriers arise. These will then be resolved privately or communally as dependent on the player/s and situation. Safety is key and if players have additional ways to feel protected, a discussion to onboard these ideas will take place during the initial communications and opening sessions.
