About the adventure
Built atop a stable gateway into the Fey realm, Rosegate is a city that breathes primal magic. Trade destination, tourist trap, religious pilgrimage, or just home - it's a little something different for everyone, but either way, everyone's glad to see you here! Maybe you're here for the Summer Solstice? Festivities in Rosegate couldn't be more spirited, with people coming in from as close as the farming outskirts and as far as Tian Xia. Enjoy the food, the dancing, and the local hospitality! But when the party ends up crashed and a magical phenomenon unlike anything seen before cuts Rosegate off with a magical barrier, locals and visitors alike will need to band together to discover the cause and free the fey-touched town from this nightmare caught in stasis. Explore a city where friend and foe alike sparkle with unpredictable magic. Unravel the mystery of the magical dome cutting Rosegate off from all outside aid, immerse yourself in the strange politics of the mixed mortal-fey court, fend off attacks when the wild fey of the surrounding forest develop a new and unexplained aggressive streak, and delve into the capricious living landscape of the fey realm in search of answers that threaten to slip your grasp. This is a roleplay heavy, long-term campaign. Players begin at level 3 and should expect to advance to at least level 10, depending on your proclivity for distracting side quests.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi friends! I'm Charlie. I've been playing tabletops in some form or another for a decade, and I've been GMing for about half that time. I consider myself a helpful, enthusiastic GM who loves player enthusiasm and creativity, and I like for my games to have range - from lots of lighthearted fun to serious moments of drama, horror, or emotion. Fun fact - my other job is 'romance writer', and I love bringing my character writing experience to the table with lovable NPCs for my players to interact with and complex villains for them to love to hate.

Creating your character
🦋 Players are invited to discuss appropriate character concepts and builds both with the GM and other players within the provided Discord server. 🦋 Because of the nature of the campaign, PCs local to Rosegate can consider many uncommon or rare fey-related ancestries, backgrounds, or feats to be common, with GM permission. Ex. The sprite ancestry should be considered common for locals. 🦋 Players will begin at level 3. 🦋 Players should use both the Ancestry Paragon & Free Archetype variant rules. 🦋 I'm generally open to 'out there' characters, especially with this setting, but keep in mind that this campaign will have its serious moments and is ultimately about a group of people coming together to do something good. Complete joke characters and edgy lone wolves are not appropriate for this table. 🦋 During our first session, we'll lock in character relationships, build out sheets, and discuss safety tools for the campaign.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To play, players will require: 🦋 A Discord account 🦋 A working microphone; nothing fancy is necessary, but please show courtesy to your fellow players by ensuring there isn't an undue amount of static or background noise from your mic and that you're utilizing noise suppression if necessary to block things like chewing and keyboard noises. No webcam is required. 🦋 A stable internet connection 🦋 A computer capable of running Foundry VTT with a fair number of modules installed. Settings can be adjusted to make it pretty managable - players have done fine with mid-tier laptops. 🦋 Players new to the system should familiarize themselves with the basics outlined in the New Players Guide on Archives of Nethys - https://2e.aonprd.com/PlayersGuide.aspx 🦋 Players should use Pathbuilder 2E to build sheets.
What Charlie brings to the table
With me as your GM, you can expect a game heavy on roleplay and relationships, broken up by Pathfinder's fun and challenging combat encounters. I pride myself on setting the mood with ambience and visuals, writing a variety of lovable, dynamic NPCs to interact with, and working with players to tell the best story we can tell. I run games mostly RAW (Rules-As-Written) or RAI (Rules-As-Intended) if it makes more sense, but at my core, I'm a narrative-first GM. I bring my improvisation skills and a love for story from mechanics-lite systems. The mechanics are there to support you, not to restrict you - I'll do my best to make sure they're never getting in the way of the story we want to tell. If you want something awesome to happen and that something makes sense within the story, I'll do my best to make it work! Players can expect the following to be provided: 🦋 Ambient music and SFX via Kenku.FM 🦋 Maps or Theater of the Mind background art courtesy of Czepeku, Domille's Wondrous Works, and James' RPG Art. 🦋 Custom tokens made either via Czepeku's extensive and customizable token catalogue or with player-provided art. 🦋 A private Discord server where you can chat both with your tablemates and fellow community members from my other games. ❌ I will NEVER use GenAI assets in my games. Players are not to bring GenAI assets to the table. If you need assistance finding art sources that aren't GenAI, please check in with me. ❌
Homebrew rules
🦋 Automatic Rune Progression (but not Automatic Bonus Progression - magic items & item bonuses are still relevant in my games) 🦋 Talismans are usable once per day rather than being a consumable item; their cost increases. 🦋 Recall Knowledge is more general and somewhat easier - players roll without choosing any particular skill, with the result being compared to all their skills. Some questions may also come with lower DCs than standard, if it seems appropriate.

Safety
How Charlie creates a safe table
During our first session, we'll discuss our list of safety tools and how to use them. We'll go through the Deck of Player Safety together, and if anyone has any additional questions or concerns, we'll go over those. Every session will have a fifteen minute break at the two hour mark, and players are of course welcome to step away at any time for bathroom breaks and the like. My tables have an open door policy, and an X card module is provided for player use. While the story of this campaign begins relatively light and mysterious, players should expect more sensitive themes and shades of horror to creep in as that mystery unfolds. If you have any specific concerns about provided content warnings and would like further details, with or without spoilers, please feel free to message me. I am a queer GM with ADHD, and my table is meant to be a safe and welcoming place for marginalized players. I have a zero tolerance policy for rude or discriminatory behavior. I take player safety and boundaries very seriously. Especially given the dark premise and horror elements you'll encounter in this adventure, it's important to me that everyone walks away from the table having had a good time. Stars & Wishes and debriefings take place in text chat after the game, and players are always encouraged to share their feelings post-session.
