About the adventure

Calling All Hunters: The guild is looking to send an expedition team to the ruins of Castle Schrade. There are reports that monsters in the area have been displaying strange and unusual behaviors. As such, a survey team and a research team are being sent to explore the ruins, determine the cause of the strange behavior and neutralize it. We ask Hunters of all skill levels to reach out to you local guild head to apply for the expedition. You can expect the usual rate for hunters of your skill level in addition to materials collected during said expedition. All approved hunting parties will make their way to Kokoto Village for departure. I am running a campaign set in the world of Monster Hunter. The campaign will see the players visit the abandoned ruins of Castle Schrade. I will be using the Monsters from the "Monster Hunter Monster Manuel" as well as the rules from Amellwind's Guide to Monster Hunting." These rulesets I feel, best allow for a Monster Hunter style game, especially one set in the world of the games.

About me

I have approximately 8 years of DMing Experience. I love running DnD 5e, Monster of the week and Bunkers and Badasses. I specifically love running narrative driven games, but I also enjoy making challenging combats that have both narrative weight and mechanical challenge. However, I also understand that these are games and we are here to have fun, so I know when to make changes in rulings based on what would be the most fun. I have also been trying my hand at making my own table top system. It is currently a work in progress however and it is not finished yet.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters during the session 0, which will be a free session. All I ask is that you will bring a character concept that will fit into a slightly altered version of the world of Monster Hunter. I can go over specific rules when you reach out to me.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All I ask that you bring ahead of time is a character concept that would fit in the world of Monster Hunter, and a mic, and the ability to open Roll 20.

What Justin brings to the table

I will provide both a discord server and a Roll 20 server, where we will handle dice rolls and character sheets. I thrive with the rule of cool. If something wouldn't work mechanically, but would fit the story, I will change how the rules work so we all can have a bit more fun. I also like to use different voices for different NPCs. I will also be providing the sourcebook "Amellwind's Guide to Monster Hunting."

Homebrew rules

The rules within provided PDF which include special weapons, carving and crafting rules, as well as a handful of other homebrew rules. Rules not within the provided PDF include: 1. Drinking a potion is a bonus action. Healing potions can be drunk as a action to receive the Maximum amount. 2. In certain scenarios, Druids may use Wisdom for nature checks, and clerics may use Wisdom for Religion checks. 3. Flanking provides a flat +1, and requires both creatures to be opposite of each other. 4. Crit damage is determined by doubling the number of dice, and maxing one of them. 5. When leveling up, and determining your HP increase, roll your hit die and keep track of the result. Next level up, you can't roll lower than the next highest number on your hit die. So, if your hit die is a d8, and you rolled a 3 on your last level up, you can't roll higher than a 4. This continues until you reach the maximum value of your hit die, and the scale resets. 6. When you roll a 1 on a hit die to increase your HP, you always reroll 1s.

Safety

How Justin creates a safe table

I employ Lines and veils, which will be listed in the Discord I make for the game, debrief at the end of a session, going over what happened, what everybody thinks will happen and how we all feel about that, as well as a open door policy, where if need by, you will always be free to walk away and take a breather.
