About the adventure
Start at Level 1 and end at Level 5-7 depending on your choices in *The Dragons of Waterdeep* campaign. A gang war between criminal elements has broken out from the underground onto the streets of your metropolis, but this is only a single sign of the chaos and frenzy that is unfolding as a new "Grand Game" is afoot to find a vault of embezzled gold. The intense rivalries and competition is giving birth to all forms of subterfuge, covert activities, deception, intrigue, and of course, inevitable death and destruction. In this campaign, YOU will: 🔎 Investigate powerful figures, merchants, gangs, and criminals. 🏗️ Build up and run your own headquarters in the city. 🕵️ Engage in intrigue with factions with conflicting demands and goals. 🗺️ Plan your own underhanded schemes and tactics. 🧩 Solve puzzles to find and understand clues and secrets. ⚔️ Defend your allies and friends in tactical combat. 🚨 —all while trying to avoid the consequences of breaking the law and facing legal trouble! Who are the players of this "Grand Game"? How is the game won? When will it end? What will be the consequences? —The only answer that is certain is that no one will play by the rules when it comes to *The Dragons of Waterdeep*. In Waterdeep, a gold coin is called a "dragon" —and if you play your cards right, you might just emerge with a horde of dragons!

About me
Call me David or, as most of my friends call me, Demo (from my username). I don't play as many board games or draw as much as I used to because of gamemastering, but that addiction is good news for my players —which could include you! What makes me a GM? Raised eyebrows? Strange voices? Source-material mash-ups? "Yes, and..."? Compelling hooks and tense scenarios? "No, but..."? Intriguing mysteries and puzzling obstacles? Callbacks to party impacts on the world? Deadly and dynamic combats? Respecting players, their time, and interests? Reveals of backstory integrations? Et cetera and potpourri? —Iocane powder? I wouldn't bet my life on that last one, —but together we can sharpen our TTRPG chops and have fun at the same time. When my board gaming friends wanted to try RPGs, the only one willing to GM was me. What I found out was that running games scratched my gaming, creative and crafting, as well as social interaction itches better than any other activity. Nothing else offers that same experience. I consider myself a student of many much more experienced GMs on the interwebs, (especially Professor DM, Sly Flourish, and the Alexandrian...) and also a student of everyone I game with —what twist or surprise are you going to throw at my prep and into our game?

Creating your character
Pregenerated characters can be provided upon request. Fixed (average) HP. Use Point-Buy or Standard-Array for starting Ability Scores. We will do Character Creation in Discord; characters should be discussed with the group in chat before game-day. I will need access to your Character Sheet for review at least 3 hours before the session, preferably 24 hrs before. 📚Allowed Sourcebooks: 2014 Player's Handbook, 2024 Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide, Volo's Guide, Tasha's Cauldron, Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, Mordenkainen Presents MotM. *Twilight Cleric is not allowed. **I may allow options from other books but reserve the right to veto them as I am less familiar with them.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
👾You need to join the Discord server ASAP to discuss the game with me and the other players. 🎙️You will need a working microphone (webcam is optional, not required). Voice/video chat for the session will be in Discord. 🌐You will need an internet device with a web-browsing App capable of running Owlbear Rodeo.
What DeMo brings to the table
My goal is to focus on the evolving story and the consequences of your actions. I try to GM with Rules as Intended first, Rules as Written second, and if we make mistakes, we keep rolling on —but I'm always on the lookout to make an exception for Rule of Creative when a player suggests something novel for the situation. I am a fan of you, the players, not your opponent. I aim to bring you a great atmosphere, appropriate vibes, and immersion with: 🗺️ Maps and art pieces 🎭 NPCs that are distinct characters with their own voices and motivations. 🎵 Immersive ambient sound and music tracks 📝 Digital Handouts 🪢 Secrets and character tie-ins to the campaign world Major combats will be handled with tactical grid maps.
Homebrew rules
💊 You can drink a Healing Potion as Bonus action. (If you spend a full Action to drink it outside of melee-range, then gain max value instead of rolling.) Administering a potion to another is a full Action. ⚔️ Critical Hit damage is max-die value added to the normal damage. 🛡️ Glancing blows (hit equals AC) deal half damage. 🎲 If you have stacks of Advantage/Disadvantage, then you gain +/-2 modifiers after the additional die. ☠️ If you fail a Death save during a combat encounter, you also gain a level of Exhaustion. 👟 A "critical" Initiative roll gives you Advantage on your first d20 roll.

How DeMo creates a safe table
We will have a 10-15 minute break halfway thru the session. We will discuss expectations in Discord chat as a session-zero prior to the campaign start. I have an anonymous survey for you to report any Content Warnings that I should add to the Lines & Veils list for the game. You may also private message me any concerns. During the game, if you need the topic/scene to move/change, please use the X/N cards in Owlbear Rodeo or by mentioning it in voice/text chat.
