About the adventure

Springwood, a forest in close proximity to the Feywild, is in trouble. New and strange plants emerge from the undergrowth, bizarre fey trouble the local wildlife, and the children of Kerning's Crossing have been acting strangely. When a gnome botanist asks for help clearing her greenhouse of fey invaders, will you answer the call? Blood of Sun and Shadow is a short campaign of three monster hunts as you delve into multi-phase boss battles, faerie court machinations, and the fate of the Feywild itself.

About me

Hey y'all! I'm excited to GM amazing adventures with you! I've been loving RPGs ever since I was in high school, and I've been more active than ever in my D&D. Like many others, I'm a huge Critter. I'm also passionate about other RPG systems like Vampire: The Masquerade and Avtar Legends What you need to know about my games is that I always try to make sure my characters are having fun and to make sure that they are comfortable. I populate my games with diverse NPCs and love worldbuilding fantastic settings for everyone to play in. I also make sure to make sure my players have a healthy challenge. Other hobbies I have include hiking, traveling, creating RPG art, and listening to music. Bidet, friends!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created at 7th level on either D&D Beyond or Roll20, using standard array or point buy for ability scores. There will be a session 0 provided for players to make their characters and tailor them to the campaign. All options from official WOTC sources or Loot Tavern are permitted (except for Silvery Barbs). In addition to starting equipment, players will begin with an extra 700 gp, 2 common magic items, and 3 uncommon magic items.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Characters will need a Discord and Roll20 account, as well as a D&D Beyond account if they wish to make their character there.

What Deryn brings to the table

As a DM, I offer a rich roleplaying experience with a focus on storytelling and character development. I use music and sound effects to enhance the atmosphere and immerse players in the game world. I enjoy creating beautiful battle maps and providing vivid descriptions to set the mood for each scene. Players can also expect intense, tactical boss battles. If you want a shot at survival, follow the clues provided in each monster hunt to best defeat your quarry! While I generally stick to the rules, I'm willing to bend or break them if it enhances the fun and enjoyment of the players. I believe that the most important thing is that everyone has a good time, so I prioritize fun over strict adherence to the rules (Fun > Rules). Overall, I'm a laid-back and fun DM who is dedicated to crafting a compelling story with my players. I strive to create a collaborative and enjoyable experience for everyone at the table.

Homebrew rules

Potion can be drunk as a bonus action, but require a full action to be administered to another person. If a healing potion is drunk or administered with a full action, that creature gains the maximum amount of healing. This campaign will also feature the tracking, harvesting, and crafting rules in Heliana's Guide, allowing you to harvest and craft magic itmes from the monsters you fight!

Safety

How Deryn creates a safe table

For safety tools, I use the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist, which I will send to players once they've joined my Discord server. This checklist helps establish boundaries and ensures that everyone is comfortable with the content of the game. During the game, I ask players to type 'Red, Yellow, Green' in the Roll20 chat to indicate their current comfort level with the content. Red means stop, yellow means pause, and green means all good. I schedule a 5-minute break in the middle of each session to give everyone, including myself, a short rest and a chance to recharge. After each session, I conduct a short debriefing where players can discuss with me what they liked, what they didn't like, and what they're most excited about for the next session. This helps me tailor the game to better suit their preferences and ensure everyone is having a good time. During Session 0, I go over characters, backstories, triggers, tone, themes, and expectations. I also use this time to get a feel for what each person wants from the game and address any concerns they may have. This helps set the stage for a successful and enjoyable campaign for everyone involved.
