About the adventure

This is the original 1985 classic TSR campaign that will test all your skills and experience. Filled with deadly traps, puzzles, and nasty NPCs dedicated to spreading Evil across the land. Only your brave band of adventurers have a chance against the Demi-God and her minions if you can breach the Temple and its links with the Elemental planes. Players may create characters from the major sources - Players H/Book; Tasha's; Mordenkainen's; with extra sub-classes, archtypes, backgrounds, and feats from Pirates Compendium and Sword Coast adventures. Beginners will start from the Village of Hommlet and advance to 4th level before tackling the Temple. Experienced players may choose to start at 4th level with some magic items, just to give you a chance of success...but no guarantee!

About me

Over 30 years rpg from AD&D to 5e, I have DM'd a wide range of TSR/WOTC modules in both tabletop and online, providing challenging and innovative encounters and stories. I am engaged by both the challenge and the unexpected from the players as they mould the adventure to suit their characters. I offer original adventures that strike true with experienced rpg players and that will fulfill their character's destiny. I have several years experience with Roll20, D&D Beyond, Discord, and more recently Fantasy Grounds Unity.

Character creation

Creating your character

Session 0 will be charachter (chct) creation from sources - Player H/Book, Tasha's, Mordenkainen's, with extra options for sub-class, archtypes, backgrounds, feats from Pirates, Sword Coast. Preferably use FG Wizard. We use point-buy to generate abilities. Chcts may be created in D&D Beyond but must be saved to import to Fantasy Grounds. No homebrew chcts accepted without GM approval. Beginners start with the basics, higher lvl chcts start with 2 common & 1 uncommon magic items.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players need Discord and Fantasy Ground Demo (free) to play. Also microphone, pc, and headphones recommended. Mobile phones not acceptable.

What AnthonyGM brings to the table

This classic game uses simple b&w maps with LOS, secret doors & traps. However, encounters use colour tokens for chcts and monsters. I usually play an NPC with the Party to assist players at the start. I enjoy using voice and style for all NPCs to create a real atmosphere generated by the original game. I use Rule of Cool to support chcts roleplaying in unusual scenarios/encounters. Players should use and roll their skills rather than wait for me to ask, particularly when searching and investigating areas. Players should be prepared to share and discuss their abilities with each other, keep close to each other as a Party when moving, and be aware of others actions when in combat. In a combat round only the 'active' chct should be talking about their actions. Players need to follow basic roleplaying (rp) in their turn...if you can't see or hear what happens then you must react accordingly. Inspirations will be awarded to chcts who rp above and beyond normal. There will be many occasions when rp and dialogue can allow the Party to avoid conflict or persuade others to cooperate. In fact, opportunities to disguise chcts as Temple NPCs may be available. Most importantly, players should have fun and enjoy the game.

Homebrew rules

Bonus action to use healing potions on self and extra attack with light weapons is an option in your turn. I have 'critical hits/miss' extension with variable results.
