About the adventure

Far from the marble forums of Rome, the provinces are cracking. Veterans go unpaid. Governors starve their people. Foreign cults whisper revolt. The Senate calls it discontent. The legions call it betrayal. Out here, beyond the reach of law, it’s already a war. You are the spark they didn’t see coming. Insurgents, double agents, haunted veterans, and fierce believers. Ordinary people forced into extraordinary choices. No prophecies. No chosen ones. Just you, your allies, and the fire you’re brave enough to strike. Roma Aeterna is a slow-burn rebellion where every action matters: quiet sabotage, dangerous alliances, whispered conspiracies, and the heavy truth that victory always demands a cost. The gods watch from the shadows, divided, hungry, and very real. And their favor can shift the course of nations. Set in a mythic version of 100 BCE, this campaign blends political intrigue with spiritual mythology and gritty resistance drama, inspired by Andor, HBO’s Rome, Barbarians, Black Sails, and Blood of Zeus. History bends. Power fractures. Revolutions ignite. In this story, you don’t follow the rise of an empire. You decide whether it survives. For players who crave complex characters, morally sharp dilemmas, and a world on the brink of something new… if it doesn’t break first.

About me

Hello! Pull up a chair, friend. This world is sorely in need of stories worth telling. A bit of lightness, a bit of courage, a bit of clever wordplay. There's nothing like a roleplaying game to draw out the best in us, and also to let us explore parts of ourselves that rarely see the light. That's why I play. I hope you'll join me! I’m always learning and growing, and I try to read as much as I can about D&D, game design, history, politics, and storytelling. I am a big fan of Dimension20, especially seasons where Aabria Iyengar or Brennan Lee Mulligan are the Dungeon Master.

Character creation

Creating your character

We start at Level 1! Create a character on Demiplane. You are freedom fighters! Make a character that would join a resistance movement against Rome. **Assassin, Brawler, Witch, and Warlock are allowed!** All the Demiplane ancestries are available!. If you choose to be a human, you can choose a culture from several of the tribes and nations around the Mediterranean: Greek, Thracian, Parthian, Egyptian, Celtic, Scythian, Han, or Germanic. Communities - Highborne might be a patrician, or you might from a royal house in Egypt, Parthia, or Han China. - Loreborne might be one of the magi from the East, or a philosopher in the tradition of the Stoics. - An Orderborne character might come from a Daoist monastery in the Far East, or a mystery cult around the Mediterranean. - A Seaborne character could be from any number of the pirate nations that harry the maritime trade routes. - Slyborne characters might be part of a commune of bandits or runaway slaves who live beyond the reach of the Pax Romana. - An Underborne character might hail from the catacomb-dwellers. - The Wanderborne and Wildborne nomads and "barbarians" can be found anywhere the Empire has not yet spread. I will have some pregenerated characters available if you prefer that over making your own!

The current party

We have a Witch, a Katari Warlock, a Celtic Warrior, a Katari Rogue, and a Parthian Ranger. Would love a Seraph, a Guardian, a Druid, or a Rogue! If you need an idea for how those would fit into the campaign, feel free to reach out! Bards, Sorcerers, and Wizards are of course welcome too :)

What Isaac brings to the table

No matter your experience level, I set a welcoming, inviting tone at my games. Your questions are good, your baggage from your last game is not too much, your experience matters to me! Pull up a chair, friend. Many (not all) of my games reflect a certain political perspective. This one more so than most. The themes of the game are explicitly anti-imperial. Rome is viewed as an aggressive empire by all throughout the Mediterranean, though they hide behind the legality of the Senate. If you are on board with that, you're in the right place! I have an annual Demiplane subscription and a Pro Roll20 account, so all your digital needs will be taken care of. I’m a musician and an artist at heart, so I love incorporating graphic design elements, musical soundtracks and ambient noise, beautiful maps, and character art to enhance the experience of the game. I think the biggest thing I bring to the table is a flair for the dramatic. I was a musical theater kid in high school. Character voices. Storytelling. High drama. Heartrending conflict. This is the stuff I like. Very much. I try to keep a good balance of combat and roleplaying (40-50% of game time) with some exploration and puzzles thrown in for flavor (5-10%). Sometimes one session ends up with more of one than the others, and I’m happy to adjust based on feedback. The Rule of Cool is a very important part of my style. If something will move the story forward in a cool way, I may not even have you roll for it. I’ve been learning that rolling too much can be a real barrier to more important things, like the narrative and the dramatic moment.
