About the adventure
We’ll be using the D&D 2024 Core Rulebook for this campaign. The world of Arn’lan is a high fantasy setting, rich in lore and magic. Setting Overview The continent of Arn’lan stands divided. To the north, the Veronian Empire teeters between order and collapse as a young princess struggles to claim her father’s throne while merchants and nobles sharpen their knives in the shadows. To the south, the Alliance of Guilds wages its endless battle for power and profit amid deserts, volcanoes, and shifting sands. Between them lies only a fragile treaty, a silence before the storm. But beneath these struggles lies something far older—and far darker. The Titans once forged this world, yet one was betrayed and cast into the depths. Now whispers of the Destroyer echo in secret halls, cults and cabals stir, and omens of “The Coming Darkness” sweep across the land. Blue fog coils in the valleys, demons claw at their ancient prison, and even the gods themselves seem uneasy. You and your companions enter this world of intrigue and myth as sparks in a tinderbox. Will you become loyal champions of crown or guild, daring explorers of forbidden ruins, or secret seekers of divine truths? Every choice you make—every ally, every betrayal—shapes not only your own legend, but the fate of empires. In Legends of Arn’lan, expect a game of political intrigue, ancient mysteries, and heroic peril. You will walk in the courts of kings and guildmasters, clash with assassins and armies, and uncover secrets meant to stay buried. The world stands on the edge of destiny. Which legend will you write? Campaign Hook "You’ve heard the rumors, I know you have—the Dragon Gate stirs. For centuries it has stood sealed, said to bind the greatest terrors this world has ever known. Now, my captain has gone missing beyond its shadow, and the Empire dares not act while nobles bicker over crowns and merchants count their coins. I can’t do this alone. If there’s truth to these omens, if something truly stirs behind that Gate, then Arn’lan teeters on the edge of a nightmare. Come with me. Help me find my captain, uncover the truth, and keep this world from falling into fire. You’ll have my sword, my trust, and—if the gods are kind—the chance to forge a legend worth remembering." -Selina, knight of The Obsidian Guard

About me
I’ve been playing TTRPGs for the past 20 years, and my journey with Dungeons & Dragons began with 4th Edition. Like many others, I’ve become what we call a “forever DM,” having run countless games for different groups of friends over the years. While I also enjoy being a player, running games as a Dungeon Master has always held a special place in my heart. These days, I primarily run D&D 5th Edition, using the 2024 rules. As time has passed—with families, careers, and the natural pace of life—my friend group hasn’t been able to meet as regularly, and D&D gradually took a backseat. That changed when I discovered StartPlaying. After joining a few games as a player and loving the experience, I felt inspired to return to my first love: being a DM. I’m passionate about worldbuilding and storytelling. Worldbuilding is something I enjoy in my spare time, crafting immersive settings for players to explore. As for storytelling, I see it as a collaborative process—I provide the framework, and the players shape the journey. My games typically include a clear end goal (whether it’s a major objective or a central villain), but how players reach that goal is entirely up to them. I aim for a balance between sandbox freedom and plot-driven structure. I hope this gives you a sense of who I am as a DM. I look forward to crafting unforgettable adventures together.

Creating your character
We will be using the D&D 2024 Core Rulebook for this campaign. The setting is high fantasy, so feel free to explore unique and creative character concepts. I’m looking for in-depth backstories, compelling motivations, and any additional details you can provide. This will help me weave your character seamlessly into the world. We’ll be starting at level 1 and using the standard array for Stats: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. Character creation can be done in one of two ways: 1) Players may create their characters using the Roll20 link that will be provided. 2) Players who are unfamiliar with Roll20 are welcome to create their characters with my help during a Discord meeting.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A webcam is required for this campaign. I find that being able to see everyone greatly improves the experience and helps with group connection. I want to see my players and I want them to see me and each other as well. We’ll be using Discord for video/audio, and Roll20 for gameplay and Character Sheets. Please make sure you have accounts set up on both platforms. All links will be provided.
What Charles brings to the table
I offer my players an immersive world and a story-driven adventure where they are the heroes. I’m deeply passionate about both worldbuilding and storytelling. Creating rich, immersive settings is something I enjoy even in my free time—crafting places that feel alive and are full of potential for discovery. Storytelling, to me, is a collaborative process. I provide the narrative framework, but the players shape the journey. My campaigns usually feature a clear end goal—whether it’s a major objective or a central villain—but how you reach that goal is entirely up to you. I strive to strike a balance between sandbox freedom and plot-driven structure, allowing for both player agency and a cohesive story.
Homebrew rules
I have 2 Homebrew rules. The first is a non-negotiable and the second can be discussed. Homebrew rule 1: No Evil Characters. If you want to play an Evil Characters, then this is not the game for you. I want players that are going to become legendary heroes, adventures or explores, not warlords, assassins or tyrants. Homebrew rule 2: No Dragonborn. For lore reason that players will learn early on, Dragonborn are not present in Arn'lan. If a player truly wishes to play a Dragonborn, then we can discus the possibility during character creation. Once a player understand the special reason behind this rule, they may then decide if they wish to play a Dragonborn or change to a different species.

How Charles creates a safe table
Free Session 0 In Session 0, we’ll go over Lines and Veils to establish boundaries and ensure everyone’s comfort. Basically expect a PG-13 rating type of game. Expect to see content (such as Blood, Death and Violence) you would normally find in a medieval fantasy movie or game with a PG 13 rating. We’ll also include mid-session breaks (10-15 min) in every session. I’m looking for a serious, character-driven game—one where players are invested in the world and eager to explore it, just as I’m excited to explore your characters. That said, there will still be plenty of laughs and memorable moments, but the goal is to keep it all grounded in roleplay.
