About the adventure
"You wake up in a cold sweat. Another nightmare that felt all too real. You were bound to a steel table flat on your back. Something was shattering your psyche. Thousands of different lives flashed before your eyes. All of them the same story over and over. A poor fisher man, a starving thief, an orphaned child, all unassuming people who suddenly gain a mass of god like power. Abilities you can wield so long as you follow the tenets of the being its attached to. You scream but its not just your own voice, its thousands screaming with you as you are torn to shreds. Something is being pulled, extracted. You are being dismantled. You remember building empires, and simultaneously destroying civilizations that did not follow your code. The world was yours to shape and yet, now you are powerless. Your past lives splitting one by one, and your essence with them. When this is over, you will never be the same. The nightmare last for hours as memories resurface, only to be extracted as if your very soul is being split. Its and endless agony, and then you awake. Its the same dream that has haunted you for your entire life. Except you feel something heavy resting across your lap. An emerald green scythe lies across your lap, glowing with energy. That wasn't there when you went to bed last night..." A city of shadows is an urban fantasy game where magic is a thing of myth for the mundane world. Your characters must navigate the social and political structures of this city while also maintaining a health veil between worlds as to not reveal yourself to mundane eyes. Your character will be well threaded into the world, making every hook and plot point relevant to their story. You will be tasked with puzzling together movement and motivation in order to determine who is pulling the strings, and reveal world altering plans before they are finished. Act quick, or be swallowed by your own inner demons.

Meet the Game Master
About me
My name is Proxi. I have been a master of ceremonies for 5 years and in that time did as most do, and facilitated tables with friends. This led to being hired as a professional game master for a summer camp out here in Oregon. After two summers and various fall and winter courses with this company, there is nothing that scares me as a GM. Rule lawyers, lone wolves, murder hobos, ect are archetypes that most game masters will run into at some point in their career, now imagine dealing with that but in the body of a 7 year old. My rule now is, if I can handle it with children, I can certainly handle it with adults. I lead my tables with compassion, but I don't waste time with a player who bring the entire group down. Everyone at the table matters and we all deserve to bring our stories to life. It's okay if my table is not for you, but I won't let it be a detriment to the both of us.

Creating your character
Players will follow a step-by-step process to fill out consent sheets, review a session zero, and then read the general lore of the setting. They will create a basic character concept and receive more lore based on what their character is tied into and knowledge they would have previously obtained. Since this campaign will be short lived, expect *quite* the lore dump. Your backstory threads will be your tools to navigate the city and achieve your goals so the more you fill it in, the more you will have to work with as a character.
A smuggler Monk, and a Rogue Wizard. Both lone wolves (though not in the toxic player sense) working within
What to expect
Preparing for the session
- Players will be sent a session zero check list to understand expectations at the table - Players will be sent consent sheets to fill out which I will then combine into one anonymous consent sheet so that we are all aware of what lines and veils exist. - Players will be sent a lore doc for their mini campaign characters and we will collaborate to create your character - Players will be given a link for the use of the VTT Alchemy and World Anvil - All of this will be organized in our very own discord server
What Proxi brings to the table
- A Safe Space: This table is BIPOC/LGBT+ friendly. No bigotry or general meanspiritedness will be tolerated. We all just want a place to engage in the beauty of a shared hallucination, there can be no room for those who wish to destroy that space - Continuous Support: Availability for character check-ups and troubleshooting to ensure everyone's on the right path. I love to talk shop about characters and character arcs. - Dynamic DMing: A planner at heart, but with a passion for improvisation. Plus, brace yourself for a variety of (Okay) character voices. - Emotional Depth: Want trauma? We've got it. (Consensual and with boundaries, of course!) You like to cry, and I live for the drama. - Immersive Storytelling: I will set the scene around you. I want you to be able to see in your mind's eye what I see. Good collaborative RP can only happen when we are all together in the same imaginative space. - Never Miss a Beat: Ability to record sessions for those "wait, what did that NPC say?" moments. - Your Past Matters: Character backstories seamlessly integrated with the main plot. The main plot is really a timeline for an event. The actual main plot can't be written until the players bring their characters to the table. Then, I will make sure that if you progress in the main story line you are progressing on the group’s or personal storyline. - Intrigue & Mystery: Ready for some head-scratching and plot twists? The strands will be many, but I won’t make it too obvious. NPC are unreliable narrators and perspectives on events matter. - Choices Matter: Your decisions will have tangible consequences in the world. Your actions will directly affect the way the story is told and how your group and personal contributions will affect the outcome. - Flexible, Yet Rich World: Dive into a world that's well fleshed out yet leaves room for collaborative development. I want to create with you, and you to create with me. My world is flexible, and together we will build elements for your character within the world. -Engaging Combat: Fights that are both narratively-driven and meaningful. Combat is always a part of the story. I won’t just throw a random encounter at you. - Homebrew & More: Tons of homebrew content, plus additional resources to enhance roleplaying. I am open to home-brew within reason. I also want to make sure that everyone has something to contribute outside of combat so that classes that traditionally are made for combat alone won't be left behind in the storytelling. - RP Heavy: Engage in a roleplay-intensive campaign teeming with innovative challenges. Encounters don’t just have to be combat. As a table that will likely be more RP than combat, I will put challenges that are more RP, social puzzles, and discovery oriented.
