About the adventure
In a muddy alley sunlight never quite reaches, a sign next to a church's back door says, "Beloved, never avenge yourselves ... for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, sayeth the Lord'." Crude graffiti half-splattered beneath the Bible quote says, "'I'm done waiting,' sayeth Man." This is a game about revenge. It's horrible, disruptive, self-destructive and utterly necessary in a city where no better justice exists. Join the ranks of the Remade, normal people twisted past the breaking point by a cruel and greedy conspiracy. What kind of Remade might you be? š The victim of a failed sacrifice who's hunted by cultists who want to finish the job. š§š¾āš¦½ A wheelchair-bound former soldier offered the chance to walk again...with some strings attached. š¤ A person born with strange mechanical parts, pursued by a company that claims you stole their trade secrets. This game is intended for as few as one and as many as three players. That means if you're the only player, this is entirely your game! I'm keeping the player count low to make sure each character gets plenty of time in the spotlight. Session 0 and your first session of regular play in this Chronicle are free.

About me
Hello! I'm Zeke. I like running games. I like designing them, too. I bring unusual settings to life with deep lore and bespoke homebrew character options. In my games, you might test your survival skills in a corrupted hellscape, or travel through time to the Stone Age to battle an immortal dark lord before his rise to power, or protect a solarpunk utopia from strange mutant beasts with your favorite raygun. If you've always wanted to play in a game with a unique premise, and you're looking for a GM to make that game a reality, feel free to reach out to me.

Creating your character
You're welcome to come to me with a fully fleshed-out character or build your character step by step with me consulting. We'll flesh out characters and the organizations they have ties to during Session 0. We'll create characters at the Hyperplasia Threat Level. That'll put more emphasis on your character's mortal skills and won't burden them with severe Scars right at the start of play. Overarching conspiracies in this game have a technological theme to them. That doesn't mean you can't play a magical Remade, but it does mean you might fit into the grand narrative a little better if you're techy.
This chronicle revolves around the nefarious doings of Phenomenology, a biotech firm based out of Cambridge, Massachusetts. They have a bad habit of "acquiring" people for scientific research that goes badly for the subject. If you're making a new character for this game, you might want to have some tie to Phenomenology, though it isn't required.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please make sure you have a Discord login. We'll use it for voice chat during game and to keep in touch between sessions. You will need a mic. If you'll be playing from a noisy place or a place with lots of distractions, you need to have PTT (Push To Talk) in Discord set up before the game starts. This is a courtesy to your fellow players as well as the storyteller.
What Zeke brings to the table
Evolving factions in an evolving world Watch your actions have ripple effects across the city. Taking down a crime boss creates a power vacuum, which exposes other criminals and leaves them vulnerable to attacks from people like you. A "Web of Pain" chronicle Imagine a bulletin board covered in pictures, notes and bits of red string showing who's connected to who. That's this game: every antagonist has links to others who are just as responsible and as reprehensible as they are. A small cast of dynamic main characters By keeping the game small, I'm keeping the focus on individual characters' story arcs. You'll have time to dive into your backstory, see character growth and advance your personal agendas.
Homebrew rules
Other ways to take down a Conviction Touchstone In this game, you don't have to kill a Conviction Touchstone to "resolve" them. You can ruin them in other ways: get them sent to prison, leave them destitute, and so on.

Safety
How Zeke creates a safe table
Grim scenarios like this one have the potential for real awfulness, so player safety is not a topic we should gloss over. Characters in Deviant: the Renegades very often have to deal with isolation, body horror and violence on a very human level. Before the game starts, we'll have a conversation about game themes that will influence what you might or might not see during play.
