About the adventure

🟄FREE SESSION ZERO🟄 For a thousand years, evil has ruled the continent of Summerset. The city of Babylon, once the shining jewel of the Living God’s kingdom, has fallen to sin and shadow. The faithful few now live under the yoke of King Gilgamesh, a mortal puppet of Asmodeus, Lord of the Nine Hells. Far to the west, in the quiet lands of Camelot, a young lord named Artorius Pendragon hears the whisper of the abandoned Living God. With new faith and a divine charge, he raises a holy banner against the infernal empire. You are one of the first to take up that call. A chosen wanderer sent into the heart of Babylon itself. The streets are gilded in gold and blood. The devils wear crowns. Somewhere in this city of sin lies the Ring of Seven Curses, a relic capable of unmaking kingdoms or damning their wielders forever. Your choices will decide whether Babylon rises again in light — or sinks a second time into hell. What to Expect: 🧠 Roleplay: personal development, divine philosophy, and secret orders. āš”ļø Cinematic combat: duels in infernal palaces, ambushes in flooded storm drains, holy crusades across Summerset. šŸ—ŗļø Exploration with difficult choices. šŸ’€ Moral challenges: the distinction between good and evil is clear, but challenging. šŸ”® Relics & lore-driven magic: holy artifacts, cursed rings, lost grimoires, and enchanted art. šŸ•µļø Player agency: every decision shapes the world. 🧪 Homebrew Content: There will be a lot of homebrew content, with the most critical aspects of it being up for discussion in session 0. šŸŒ€ Opportunities for free 1 on 1 sessions, and PBP for downtime. šŸ“– Session 1: The Gates of Babylon You arrive at the city’s southeastern gate, passing the slave camps and the mile of crucified sinners. You are called to Babylon on business with a certain magic-item dealer named Horno. The guards mock you. The city dazzles you. The prophecy waits for you. šŸŽ Playstyle This campaign rewards: Deep character development and backstory integration. Tactical, consequence-driven choices. A focus on mystery, faith, and power. Expect a mix of narrative exploration (60%), combat (30%), and problem-solving (10%). To be done in session 0, see details in the character creation section below. You will shape the next chapter of history — through light, or through flame. Bring your voice, your curiosity, and your faith. Babylon awaits. -Jimmy Sides

About me

I am an engineer who enjoys all things creative in my free time. I am currently making a sports comic book and am a player in one long-running D&D campaign with my friends. As a GM I have run 3 campaigns, ranging anywhere from one player, to 5. Both brand new players, and vets! I hope to run excellent games for my players and help them find the most enjoyment out of their time. If you are having fun, then I am having fun.

Character creation

Creating your character

🟄FREE CHARACTER CREATION DURING SESSION ZERO🟄 🧩 Character Creation -We will create characters as a group in session 0, so that the party is in alignment and all players are on board with the themes of the campaign. -Class selection will be open, No "balanced party" will be enforced. -Each player begins with one flaw and one vice (a unique progression system). -Level 1 start, hybrid XP and training progression (baked into downtime). -SRD 5.2 core (5e 2024) + approved homebrew (Knight of Charlemagne, Oath of the Grail, etc.) -Most expanded 2014 content will be allowed, however, I will rework it to fit with the new 2024 character creation and class rules. [Subclasses for all classes are at level 3]. This is done so that it fits into the campaign world and is fair for all players. - As a rule, where there is 2014 and 2024 rules or classes overlapping, we will use the 2024 version. If you want an exception, this can be discussed during session 0. -Multiclassing is allowed, but certain changes may be required to keep everyone engaged and having fun. -Not all races will be allowed for player characters at the beginning of the campaign. Human, elf, half-elf, dwarf, halfling, and tiefling will be allowed. If you want to play a different race, we can discuss this in session 0, however, it must fit within the campaign setting, and is at my discretion. -I will work with you to achieve the player character fantasy you want, within the confines of the campaign and the other player characters. -You may min-max, but please keep in mind the other players at the table and their enjoyment. I will not allow builds like Coffee-Locks, however, builds like SorcLocks are fine. Keep roleplaying in mind, and min-maxing will not be an issue with me. -Stats will be point-buy. -Starting equipment and starting wealth will be standard for your class and background, you may not take the "money only" option.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Free programs will be used: -Discord for voice chat discussions, handout sharing, announcements, and optional out of session discussions. -Owlbear Rodeo for our table space and battle maps.

What Jimmy Sides brings to the table

First and foremost I will be providing an immersive experience. Expect detailed descriptions interwoven with choice music, to create a legendary atmosphere, and an opportunity for you and your character to perform heroic deeds. Your choices as players will determine the fate of the world. They will be clear and you will see the direct affects of them. I stick to the rules as written, but allow for heroic feats using the inspiration system. You can expect me to work with you to create the fantasy you envision within this world of heroes, and run the villains, NPCs, and enviornment in an authentic way. --Character death is very much a possibility. Devils do not pull their punches, and lust for your misery.

Homebrew rules

There will be some homebrew rules up for debate during session 0: -ASI/Feats, and Abilities from Leveling Up will be gated by training. There will be plenty of downtime to accommodate. -Enchantments/Blessed Items: There will be items with minor stat bonuses, (fractions of a point) which can be found as loot or purchased. -Attunement: You have 2 attunement slots with a role-play driven progression system to get 4. -Investigation/Traps: It takes time to investigate thoroughly. -Stealth and Insight rolls are rolled by the DM unless you have proficiency. -Melee Reach: Fighters and a homebrew feat, gain access to 15ft+ reach weapons. Weapons with 10ft+ reach have an opportunity attack option on a creature closing the distance. -The spell Sending costs 300GP to use. -The spell Teleport and plane-shift do not work properly due to a conflict amongst the gods. They both exist but have expanded consequences tables unless you have the specific magical components to stabilize them.

Safety

How Jimmy Sides creates a safe table

This campaign is Christian friendly, but is R rated. Sexual subjects will be described, but it will be plainly described, and without detail. I find no enjoyment in describing these acts, however, this campaign's subject matter covers most all aspects of immorality, so it will come up. Violence will be described in a cinematic way, not in the most vivid detail, unless that is somehow relevant. We will have a lines and veils document. We will go over all of the other possible controversial themes in this campaign. When sensitive topics come up (and again, they will be fairly rare), and descriptions make you more than uncomfortable, you may ask to pause the scene and discuss it. Post game discussions may be had if particularly disturbing events occur. I do not expect that to happen, but I am open to supporting you in the ways you need.
