About the adventure
It was supposed to be a normal night. You were at the winter gala at Miskatonic University, brown-nosing with rich donors, listening to speeches no one cared about, enjoying the free food and open (non-alcoholic) bar. They even got a band this year, a string quartet out of Glouster, which is unusually swanky for the penny-pinchers in charge of planning university events. Then someone died, and all at once you were thrust into a mystery that grew stranger and more twisted the longer you investigated. Madness and misfortune dogged your steps, even across the sea, but the more you looked, the more you were certain that only you and your associates could stem the tide of horror that is barreling toward humanity. And now you stand, off the coast of Easter Island, on a non-Euclidean monolith of otherworldly design. Below you, a vortex of water rages and foams as it rushes in and around and down the ruins of the ancient city below. You must kill the god that sleeps there, before it envelops the world in its embrace and swallows the world whole. Shadows of Yog-Sothoth is a Call of Cthulhu globetrotting campaign adapted for 7th edition.

About me
I have always loved to tell stories! In fact, it's what I went to school for. I was a film major and an English minor, with emphasis on screen writing and creative writing. When my husband, then my boyfriend, introduced me to ttrpgs, it was a Starfinder 1e game--clunky, not super great for total beginners, but what a blast! Then D&D 5e came to town, and that was the main game for us, until recently, when we've started branching out. That was almost 7 years ago. Since then, I've DMd two full D&D 5e campaigns, and my homebrew campaign is currently on a hiatus so I can write the next chapter. I'm also prepping two Call of Cthulhu published campaigns. Recently, I discovered Cairn, and in just one game, which I wrote, geared toward total newcomers to the system, both of my home groups have fallen in love and asked for more. I love creating stories for characters to inhabit--it literally makes me happier than almost anything in the world. Writing and storytelling is my passion, and ttrpgs feel like home. Creating your character
We will be holding a session 0 to create characters and backup characters, go through safety information and table expectations, and give a brief overview of the campaign itself. At this time, we will also go through a brief rules primer for any players new to Call of Cthulhu. We will be making characters together. Please do not bring a previously created character to session 0, unless you have played in past games with me and want to bring that character along. When we create characters, you can either create them first externally and put them into Alchemy, or create your characters directly in Alchemy.
Session 1: Death at the Gala Just as it was looking like another business-as-usual, successful donor appreciation gala at Miskatonic University, someone turns up dead; because of course they do. After all, this is Arkham. Now the investigators must discover whether this was murder, or something else entirely.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a (free) Discord account and a (free) Alchemy RPG account. Campaign-specific links will be shared upon joining. You will also need a microphone, a method of hearing the Discord chat, and some way to view the VTT at a minimum. A webcam and microphone, and a desktop or laptop are ideal. Pen and paper, or some way to take notes, will be useful both for character creation and for during the game itself.
What Amanda brings to the table
This campaign was written for classic Call of Cthulhu, but I have converted it to 7th edition. I have also added numerous scenarios, both published and original, to flesh the adventure out and attempt to get it "off the rails" a little. Because many of the handouts included in my version of this campaign were meant to be cut out and used at a physical table, I have recreated nearly all location maps and handouts, and created some original ones as well, to better suit the material of the campaign, including an original campus map of Miskatonic University. I have the Malleus Monstrorum, Cults of Cthulhu, and the Grand Grimoire, and therefore can use 7e versions of spells and monsters as intended by the game designers, unimpeded by questions about accuracy in converting. NPCs have been converted using the guidelines laid out in the Keeper's Handbook, and where applicable, the 7e version of a skill, attack, or spell has been inserted straight from the Chaosium source material. I am confident that the conversion of this adventure is as accurate as possible. In addition, I will provide ambient music through the VTT and dozens of handouts for each chapter. I am not a trained actor or voice actor, but I will do my best with character voices.
Homebrew rules
We will be using the optional rule for spending Luck, as well as the optional rule for transferable skill benefits with skill specializations and languages. Otherwise, we will run the game with rules as written. Depending on the makeup of the party, we can also discuss modifications for a more pulpy feel, or modications for a crunchier game. All of this will be discussed as well during Session 0.

How Amanda creates a safe table
As with all of my longer games, there will be a Session 0, where expectations and safety tools will be discussed. In addition, this is a three-strike, zero-tolerance table. What does that mean? Three strikes exist for those players who are committing infractions that aren't hurtful to others but that slow or stop the session. An example of this would be frequently being away from keyboard. The three-strike rule exists to give that player the chance to realize that what they're doing is hurting the game and to fix it. Zero-tolerance applies to players committing major infractions that hurt others, such as racist or politically charged speech, slurs, deadnaming, outing, etc. An example of this would be sexually inappropriate speech, either over voice or in chat, directed toward one or more players. Players who engage in this type of behavior will not get a warning. If you can't be polite and respectful for a few hours a week, this is not the game for you. This is a space to relax and get away from the real world. This is a space for people to unwind and engage in one form of self-care, playing TTRPGs with others. We don't need to bring elements of current events into our game world. The two need to remain separate so that the enjoyment of the game and the safety of all players can remain intact.
