About the adventure

For centuries, the Cult of the Dragon has schemed to twist prophecy in its favor, obsessed with raising undead wyrms to dominate Faerûn. But the cult was wrong. The truth of the prophecy points not to shambling dracoliches, but to the return of an empire of living, breathing dragons. Now, under ruthless new leadership, the cult pursues its true destiny: the resurrection of their dark queen, Tiamat. Banished for millennia to the Nine Hells, the goddess of evil dragons stirs once more. Her followers believe the time has come to free her and unleash her wrath upon the Forgotten Realms. To achieve this, the cult seeks five ancient dragon masks, artifacts of unimaginable power, and the allegiance of chromatic dragons across the Sword Coast. With scaled allies rallying to their banner, they embark on a campaign of terror and plunder. Caravans burn, merchant ships vanish, and whole cities quake as the cult amasses a treasure hoard vast enough to herald Tiamat’s return. No kingdom, from Waterdeep to Baldur’s Gate, is safe from their depredations. But the Sword Coast is not defenseless. Ancient factions like the Harpers, the Lords’ Alliance, the Order of the Gauntlet, the Emerald Enclave, and the Zhentarim, know that only by uniting can they hope to resist. Together, they call for brave adventurers to investigate the cult’s schemes, forge uneasy alliances, and confront the rising tide of dragonkind before it’s too late. The path ahead will test every skill, every bond, and every ounce of courage. Heroes must battle through fire and shadow, negotiate with enemies who may become uneasy allies, and ultimately stand against the greatest threat the Realms has seen in an age. For if the cult succeeds, Tiamat herself will ascend from the Nine Hells to claim the world as her own. The fate of Faerûn hangs in the balance. Will you rise to meet the challenge, or fall before the Tyranny of Dragons?

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will begin at level 3 and we will be using the new 2024 rules since that will most likely be the norm going forward. Races and classes are a little more open but I highly recommend sticking to the 2024 materials. Characters can be created in advance of session 0 on DnDBeyond but it is not necessary if assistance is needed. If there are any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

The current party

We currently have a ranger and a sorceror.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a DNDBeyond account, and a Discord account. You don't have to have any prior knowledge of the game to play but consider looking up some videos or beginner tips on youtube. Mic is necessary. Webcam is not needed but highly encouraged as it's always more fun to see your fellow players.

What Dustin "Blake Poleman" brings to the table

I provide the tabletop, and the materials needed to play. I also provide music/ambient sounds to set the mood (which you can control on your side if it's too loud/soft or otherwise). I do voices, and generally try to get everyone involved in roleplay that wishes to participate. For combat, I tend to stick to rules as written, but fun is more important and will sometimes allow the "rule of cool" to win the day.

Homebrew rules

I don't typically use house rules BUT I will sometimes override rules as written for rule of cool. Games should be fun after all.

Safety

How Dustin "Blake Poleman" creates a safe table

The first session will be spent on character creation with any remaining time for the players to discuss any limits they may have in session 0, on discord or directly via message if it is a sensitive subject. Breaks will be offered, but on shorter two hour sessions they won't be wholly necessary. I also have an open door policy. Feel free to message me any time.
