About the adventure

On Mytyr, death is not the end; at least, not for you. Once, you lived an ordinary life, defined by one extraordinary moment: your death. You died protecting someone, defending a cause, or standing against the impossible. And in its moment of greatest need, a greater force reached across the veil of mortality, drawing your soul through the Crucible. You were remade in fire and ash, reborn as a Phoenix. All because now, the world is shrouded in the encroaching terror of the Dread. It corrupts land and life alike, twisting villages into nightmares and armies into husks. Where ordinary mortals cannot stand, Phoenixes rise again and again to fight. Each time you fall in battle, you return stronger, the fire within burning hotter but at a terrible cost. The Dread grows stronger too, feeding on your sacrifice. And on the tenth death, the Crucible will not return you. Your soul will be lost forever. This is a game of heroic sacrifice and grim hope. You will rise to defend a world that fears and depends upon you, knowing that every victory comes with a cost, and every return from death edges you closer to finality. The story is not about whether you will fall, because you will, but what you choose to protect, what secrets you uncover, and what your last death will mean. If you are a player who enjoys character-driven storytelling, emotional stakes, moral dilemmas, and mythic battles against the dark, this campaign is for you. We will explore themes of mortality, rebirth, and camaraderie — of choosing not just how to live, but how to die, and what kind of legacy to leave behind in a world fighting for its future.

About me

It all began Thanksgiving Day when I was 10 years old. I found my uncle’s Dungeons & Dragons red box with the warrior on the cover battling against a dragon. I was instantly drawn to it and begged my uncle to teach me how to play. Less than a year later, I was running adventures for my friends, igniting their and my imaginations as we told stories of heroics and fantasy. As the child of a Navy sailor who moved around a lot, D&D was always my constant and my way of connecting with like-minded people I met. Fast forward to now. Over the years, I have told hundreds of stories with adventurers and friends. Focusing on heavy roleplay and cinematic combat, I aim to bring years of improv theatre to life by driving stories focused on the player’s characters and the decisions they make. Nothing is too wild as we collaboratively build worlds and create adventures that will fill the halls of the legends of those worlds. Come join me. There are still so many tales to tell.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll make characters together in Session Zero using Demiplane. Session Zero will be free of charge, but expect it to last between 4-4.5 hours. This allows us to build Experiences and Connections together with the group so that we can get started right in the thick of the action.

The current party

This campaign frame uses custom Death and Leveling mechanics, but you should join as a Level 3 character. The current party is: - a human warrior - an earthkin witch - an elf seraph, and - a human rogue

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I use my hands and facial expressions often when storytelling, so I will be on camera. However, this does not mean that it is an expectation of you. All you need is a Demiplane account (app.demiplane.com), a Discord account, a working microphone, and a sense of adventure and fun!

What Anthony McKinstry brings to the table

I bring to the table 32 years of love for running tabletop RPGs, shared access to the rulebook (and any future supplements) on Demiplane, maps and assets delved from various high-quality mapmakers, a whole slew of voices (some even that I surprise myself with out of the blue), strong improv ability, and lots of laughs along the way.

Homebrew rules

This campaign frame will use the following Campaign Frame specific mechanics which we will discuss fully during our Session Zero. ⚙️ Phoenix Resurrection ⚙️ Bonded Aid ⚙️ Dread-Touched

Safety

How Anthony McKinstry creates a safe table

During Session Zero, you will receive a link to this campaign's Deck of Player Safety, allowing you to anonymously inform me of Lines & Veils you may have. Lines & Veils will then be discussed during our Session Zero. If Session Zero has occurred already, I will spend time with you to personally go over Lines & Veils. X cards (for Lines) and N cards (for Veils) are available to all players during play.
