About the adventure

Seattle is cursed. Help wipe away its stain. Start as a junior Exorcist in the Puget Sound Theater, working under CAIN when your psychic power awakened. When the stress and trauma of humanity rages in the roiling psychic sea, a Sin is born. Your job is to hunt them down and execute those sins at any cost. CAIN is an investigative role playing game focused on chasing down rumors and traces of Sin. You will wield the power of an Exorcist and their Blasphemies, working off your stain for humanity's betterment. WARNING: Do not maintain eye contact with a sin for more than 3 seconds. As above, so below.

About me

I have been playing tabletop games for 20 years now, starting with D&D 3.5. Since then, I've run multiple, multi-year campaigns in Pathfinder and World of Darkness. Notable campaigns include Way of the Wicked, with encounters inspired by the Bayonetta series. Reign of Winter ran as a mythic campaign, ending in a multi-part final encounter taking full advantage of Mythic power without it becoming rocket tag. Vampire: the Masquerade for nearly 7 years, tightly focused on a group of Caitiff and Anarchs attempting to overthrow the Camarilla from within. All of this is done with a massive emphasis on roleplay and a deep understanding of mechanics to make sure everyone gets their time to shine when the dice come down.

Character creation

Creating your character

During Session Zero, players will be given the character creation rules and, if needed, guided through the process. You're encouraged to wait until Session Zero to complete your character, bit if you have access to the rules, feel free to get started.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before joining the game, make sure you have completed the following: * Ensure you have a microphone and can provide good-quality audio * Create a Roll20 account (https://app.roll20.net/create-account) * Download Discord and create an account (https://discord.com/) Once the game begins, links will be sent out to the appropriate Roll20 game and Discord servers!

What Daniel brings to the table

Exorcists will be given dossiers about the upcoming Hunt to help fully immerse themselves in the adventure. Each location will have sets and maps unique to each Hunt, along with ambient music and sound to help give clues to what can and cannot be seen. Locations will take full advantage of Roll20's dynamic lighting and fog of war to enhance exploration and investigations. What you do in the Puget Sound Theater will change the world around you, for better or worse. In CAIN, there is not right or wrong, just actions and their consequences. You have one goal: Wipe out the stain. As Above, So Below.

Safety

How Daniel creates a safe table

During Session Zero, we will cover Lines and Veils, making sure anything anyone DOES NOT want to experience does not happen. In the case of surprise triggers, uses of digital X/N/O cards to ensure everyone stays on the same page. CAIN is inherently about human trauma and untangling those events to defeat the monster at its heart. For that reason, this game may not be for everyone, but I encourage you to join and blast someone's trauma to ash.
