About the adventure

🛡️ The Watchers of Stoneford 👁️ Welcome to Stoneford, a bustling market town straddling the Redbrook, where wagons rumble over the stone bridge, merchants haggle in the square, and guild banners flutter proudly above their halls. Life is loud, earthy, and sometimes messy—exactly the sort of place that needs a town watch to keep order. That’s you. 🌆 Your Duties By day you: 👨‍🌾 Patrol the crowded market stalls 🐐 Break up disputes over livestock, land, and coin 🪵 Inspect wagons and wide loads at the bridge 🍻 Stop tavern brawls before they get bloody 🐈 Rescue cats from trees (yes, really) By night you: 🔦 Walk the walls and guard the gates 🗝️ Catch burglars and smugglers in the act 🔔 Answer alarms when fire or flood threatens 🌙 Keep watch when the rest of Stoneford sleeps It’s a life of grit and duty. Some days you’re mediators, other days you’re enforcers, and every day you’re the line between order and chaos. 🌒 The Shadows Stir But Stoneford holds more than merchants, mills, and mead. Beneath the cobbles and clay, something moves. Strange graffiti marks the walls. Livestock go missing, then townsfolk. Odd symbols appear carved into old stone. Whispers speak of tunnels, catacombs, and… watchers. For now, the watch keeps the peace. But in the shadows, something else keeps watch. 🎲 What to Expect ⚔️ Routine made fun — Patrols, gate checks, petty crime, and messy town life. 🧩 Investigation — Disputes, mysteries, and who’s telling the truth. 😈 Escalating weirdness — From tavern brawls to whispers of cults beneath the streets. 🏰 A living town — Guild rivalries, seasonal floods, festivals, and fairs. 👁️ The cult beneath — Slowly revealed, patient, and dangerous. 🎭 Player Characters You are members of the Stoneford Watch, but you have lives outside the guardhouse too. A potter or brickmaker tied to the guilds. A carter who knows the bridge disputes all too well. A miller’s hand or bargeman accustomed to spring floods. A brewer, smith, hunter, or hedge-witch drafted into service. Whatever your trade, when the bells ring, you answer the call. 🛡️ Keep the peace. Patrol the streets. Guard the gates. Stoneford needs its watchers. But ask yourself… what else is watching Stoneford? 👁️

About me

Rules-lite RPGs are my passion. Collaborating with players to create background and backstory is what I enjoy most. Creating a great character-driven narrative that we will tell for years is my goal. My preference is for RPG systems that support the story and also allow for players to have the option to succeed at a cost, driving the story to a climactic finish where all those checks must be paid. RPGs work best when it's like a jazz ensemble, where the whole group plays together most of the time but everyone gets a chance to step forward for their solo from time to time. I've been running a lot of "legacy campaigns" lately, where the characters can have a profound impact on the game world in a short campaign. Then start a new campaign set a few years or decades in the future in that changed world, with some of the players coming back, while some new players may also join, with characters that may or may not be related to the previous campaign. I'm available for a custom session or campaign. I ask that, if you book a custom game, that the table be at least four players, even if one of those seats ends up being empty. Custom campaigns are offered at $11/seat, including a session 0 and at least 6 additional sessions. One-shots are offered at $16.50/seat. I can put together a quality one-shot in a few days if it's a system on my list. If it's not on my list, it may be similar to something I already know, please, feel free to ask.

Character creation

Creating your character

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Character Creation We’ll create our characters together in Session 0 using the official Warlock! character sheet on Roll20. No prep is needed — just bring your ideas, and we’ll shape them into members of the Stoneford Watch. ⚔️ The Rules (as Written) We’ll use the core Warlock! rules straight from the book: 📜 Choose Beginning Skills – Pick the skills that define your character’s foundation. 🎲 Roll for Stamina & Luck – Your grit and fortune, set in stone by the dice. 🧭 Roll Four Random Careers – From rat catchers to scribes to soldiers. You’ll roll four from the core book. Choose one to begin your career. The others? Paths not taken… or maybe futures waiting to unfold. 🛠️ Pick Adventuring Skills – Shape how you shine when the watch is called into action. 🏘️ Setting Boundaries Stoneford is a human town in a grounded dark fantasy world. That means: 🚫 No elves, dwarves, halflings, or goblins. ✅ Everyone begins as a human with roots (or baggage) tied to Stoneford or the Redbrook valley. This helps keep the story focused on the guild rivalries, market squabbles, and creeping shadows of Stoneford’s very human troubles. 🌆 The Watch Connection Every character is part of the town watch — but that doesn’t mean you’re just a guard in a helmet. You may also be: 🏺 A potter drafted by the guild to represent their interests. 🐟 A fisherman’s son who owes service to the watch. ⚒️ A smith who patrols the walls when not at the forge. 🪵 A carter who knows the bridge better than anyone. 🍻 A brewer or tavern-keeper pressed into duty when needed. Your life outside the watch matters just as much as your life within it. 🎭 Style of Play Character creation in Warlock! is fast, flavorful, and leaves room for surprises. 🎲 Random rolls give us quirky, memorable characters. 🧩 We’ll link your watch duties to your career, skills, and personal goals. ✨ Even the most ordinary beginnings can lead to extraordinary fates. No need to prepare ahead. We’ll build your character together, roll the dice, laugh at the results, and set you loose as a Watcher of Stoneford. 🛡️ Every shift begins the same way: boots on the cobblestones, eyes on the streets, and questions in the shadows.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🖤 What You’ll Need 🎙️ Microphone required – Clear voice comms keep the watch sharp. 📹 Camera optional – You’re welcome to use one, but never required. 🌐 Roll20 account – Character sheets and dice rolls live here. 💬 Discord account – For voice, announcements, and session logs. 🛡️ How to Prepare as a Player 🔦 Come ready to play investigators in armor, mediators in the mud, and reluctant guardians of a town that depends on you. 🎲 Expect a mix of mundane conflicts (brawls, thefts, disputes) and creeping weirdness (symbols, tunnels, cult whispers). 🐾 Think small — your character begins with a trade, a few skills, and a duty to the watch. The extraordinary comes later. 🕯️ Lean into fear, doubt, and uncertainty. Not everything has an answer. Not everything wants one. Stoneford needs its Watchers. But remember: when you stare too long into the shadows, sometimes the shadows stare back. 👁️

What Ukulele Mike brings to the table

⚔️ What I Provide 🕯️ A living town – Streets, guilds, bridges, and floodwaters that breathe with routine and rumor. 👁️ Mortal danger & creeping dread – Shadows that lengthen, whispers that thicken, and signs you’re not the only watchers in Stoneford. 📜 Rules support – A guided walk through Warlock! character creation, plus help during play for all levels of experience. 🏰 Immersion tools – Maps, handouts, tokens, and a log of events to keep the story alive between sessions. ⚖️ Safety tools – Lines & Veils, X-Card, and open-table conversation. Dark stories demand brighter care. 🩸 Tone & Themes 🕯️ Dark Fantasy – A medieval world of mud, toil, and fragile order. 👁️ Eldritch Horror – Strange signs, secret cults, and whispers beneath the cobbles. 🧩 Mystery – Crimes and disputes that unravel into something deeper. ⚖️ Political Intrigue – Guild rivalries and town politics you can’t ignore. Stoneford is not a world of bright heroes and shining swords. It is a town where ordinary people bear the weight of duty, even when unseen eyes are watching.

Safety

How Ukulele Mike creates a safe table

🌟 Safety Tools Even in a campaign of shadows and dread, the players’ safety and comfort come first. We’re here to tell a dark story together — but it should never come at the cost of anyone’s fun or well-being. Here are the tools we’ll use at the table: ⏸️ Breaks – Anyone can call a break at any time. Step away, breathe, stretch. The story will wait. 🚪 Open Door – If you need to leave early or step away for the night, no explanations are needed. Life comes first. 🛑 Lines & Veils – We’ll set Lines (hard limits) and Veils (fade-to-black subjects) in Session 0 so we know what’s off the table. ❌ X-Card – Tap, type, or say “X” if something crosses a line for you. We stop, rewind, and adjust — no questions asked. ⭐ Stars & Wishes – At the end of sessions, share what you enjoyed (⭐) and what you’d like more of (✨). This keeps the game fun and tuned to the group. 🧾 Session 0 – A dedicated session to set expectations, build characters together, discuss tone, and establish our shared safety agreements. 💙 My Promise 🕯️ The world may be grim, but the table is welcoming. 👥 Everyone’s voice matters. 🌱 If something doesn’t feel good, we’ll adapt together. Your comfort matters more than the fiction. We’re here to enjoy the story, not to endure it. 🌟 Together, we’ll keep Stoneford dark… and the table bright. 💙
