Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! My name is Walid, I have been playing TTRPGs for 10 years now, and GMing for almost as long. I started back in 2015, when a french actual play called "Aventures" caught my eye and made me want to try out TTRPGS, and I've been hooked ever since. I've played a lot of indie systems, as well as most mastodons of the hobby. I've had periods where most of my playtime was doing one shots with a different system every week, and other times I've been pretty much focused on long-term campaigns with all the ups and downs they entail. I've been passionate about storytelling for pretty much all my life. Before I was playing TTRPGs, I loved writing stories, dreaming them up, imagining ups and downs, worldbuilding, it's always been my jam. Doing it collaboratively is one of the most wonderful things I can imagine! Knowing when to push in during funny moments, pulling back to let the narrative breathe, putting emphasis on dramatic moments, those are all dynamics that are extremely fun for me to play with. Outside of TTRPGs, I study philosophy and political science in Montréal, I love video games and cinema, I have a wonderful cat which I love to show off to the camera, I have a very healthy obsession with organizing things on excel spreadsheets, and I enjoy reading in my free time. Excited to be able to play with you!

Creating your character
Your characters will start at level 1 and stats will be assigned with Point Buy. They should generally view the Empire as both a threat and an enemy. Apart from that, the heroes can come from almost any background and profession! Smugglers, idealistic freedom fighters, Jedis... As long as they're willing to fight the empire, they'll thrive in this story!
The party is currently made up of a Jedi Draethos (Guardian), a Monk Hutt, and a Wookiee Berzerker! We are still playing through the first episode of the campaign.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Mics are required, cameras are optional but recommended! All you need to play is a Roll20 and Discord account.
What Walid brings to the table
Most importantly, I consider players to be the driving force of any story! I'm here to react to your inputs, your wants and needs for the story. I will gladly take the story in unexpected directions if it's something the party wants! I use ambient music and sound effects on Discord to set the tone at the table. I very much enjoy doing character voices, roleplaying intense moments, letting characters take the spotlight when needed! I also enjoy giving creative inputs to my players in the heat of the moment. Allowing them to describe an NPC, tell me something about a location or a planet... If that's something you think you'll enjoy, I am very excited to have you at my table! Worldbuilding is my strong suit, and while it doesn't shine the brightest with pre-established settings like Star Wars', it doesn't stop me from going in depths and customizing things to my table's liking.
Homebrew rules
ASI and a feat: Instead of getting an ASI or a feat, players get a +1 to their ability score AND a feat. Crueler criticals: Instead of rolling the damage dice twice, you instead maximize the damage once and then roll the second die.

Safety
How Walid creates a safe table
Session 0 will be an opportunity for us to talk about Lines and Veils (which will be able to be brought to the table anonymously), as well as set the tone more specifically with everyone. This is an opportunity to facilitate our cooperation and see if you mesh with the group! My games have an Open Door policy: you are free to leave the virtual table and the game as a whole at any moment without owing an explanation and without judgement. For our in-session safety tools, I use Script Change through a Roll20 add-on, which I'll explain during Session 0. In brief, Script Change is a safety tool that allows to control the pacing of the game both for comfort and to give input to the GM during our session. You can learn more about it here: https://thoughty.itch.io/script-change
