About the adventure

[First session free! We are looking for a brave adventurer to join the party since one player recently dropped out. Join as the real action is starting, as we have almost completed the second dungeon and are at 4th level.] This job seemed simple enough: some decent coin and a chance to visit an exotic island across the sea, in exchange for helping some astronomer study a rare stellar eclipse event. Perhaps you were hired muscle in it for the adventure, or perhaps a scholar seeking to expand your frontiers. Whatever the case, you were excited to be selected from the many applicants, but this is not what you signed up for. Shortly after arriving at Talmandor's Bounty, a column of shadow erupted from the sea and washed across the sky, dimming out the sun. Now your mission has changed: explore an ancient Azlanti prison to discover the source of this anomaly. These ruins are filled with all sorts of shadowy, scheming creatures, with a brood of vampires being the brains behind the operation. Now your group of aspiring adventurers must put a stop to these insidious plans before it's too late!

About me

My name is Wade, a.k.a. the Battle Barrister, and I have been playing D&D on and off since the ancient times of the red Basic Set and AD&D 1st edition. I came back to the fold and started playing 5e regularly following a spinal cord injury, and have now come to enjoy life behind the DM screen. Over the past few years my interests have shifted to playing and running Pathfinder 2e. I find it to be an elegant system and enjoy teaching new players. I have recently become what I like to term a semi-pro GM and am making the transition from Roll20 to Foundry.

Character creation

Creating your character

We can create characters together in Discord ahead of time and/or during a session zero (typically people get some general ideas ahead of time, and we can hammer out party composition during session 0). Characters will start at 1st level. For those not familiar with Foundry, the PF2e module provides access to all Paizo materials and you can drag and drop ancestries, feats, backgrounds, etc. into your sheet. You can also create characters through the Pathbuilder website and import them into Foundry (though this can be janky). Typically I use the following pattern for character creation options (ancestries, backgrounds, feats, etc): Common - fine Uncommon- probably good but ask first Rare - convince me To clarify, this process applies to the various Paizo rulebooks. Character creation options from adventures other than the current one are unlikely to be approved. Shades of Blood is a fairly generic setting, in that it is primarily a dungeon crawl based in a remote location. It isn't one of the adventure paths focused on a specific ancestry or in which the local plays a significant part of the story. Thus, pretty much any combination of class, ancestry, and background is viable. All I ask is that you think a bit about why your character would want to undertake the long journey from mainland Andoran to a remote island colony for what starts as a research project. (Though I don't need or want a novel-length backstory.) We will be using the following variant rules: - Free Archetype (Dedication at Level 2) - Gradual ability boosts - Free background lore boosts

The current party

Party is 4th level and consists of gnome cleric, human rogue, human thaumaturge, and dwarf psychic.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Not much preparation is required. If you are familiar with Pathfinder 2e rules, great, but otherwise I can teach you the basics as we go. There is a short player guide for this adventure, which includes local information and helpful recommendations for player options. Definitely read through this document (available for download from the Paizo website, and I will provide a copy in the Discord server). In terms of technology you will just need a reasonably modern computer, along with a headset/microphone for audio through Discord. You will obviously also need the Discord application and an account. Once accepted to the game, the group and I will chat on Discord about the outline of the adventure, character creation, and general nonsense to get to know one another. I will then create an account for logging into Foundry through my hosting instance and a blank sheet to create your character. At that point, we will basically be off and running and ready to schedule sessions!

What Wade brings to the table

I have the Foundry VTT reliably self-hosted, along with the official Shades of Blood game package purchased through Paizo/Foundry. This includes high-quality maps, engrossing ambient sounds and music, and a full compendium for Pathfinder and the adventure. I also am incorporating additional ambient music from Michael Ghelfi, who composed the soundtrack for this adventure and most other PF2e adventures on Foundry. I have installed a judicious collection of helpful Foundry modules, and am open to further suggestions. The game audio will be run through Discord, and I maintain an active discussion server. I do have some physical limitations with my hands. I have managed to find some workarounds, but I ask for your patience at times. I try to create memorable NPCs with unique personalities and voices, and tailor the story to the characters. I generally stick to rules as written with Pathfinder 2e, since it is such an intricately balanced game. Particularly creative actions and solutions will generally be rewarded, though. We will run the PF2e remaster rules to the extent possible. I have a few house rules that are player friendly, including free archetype and gradual ability boosts. Lastly, all are welcome at my tables and I do my best to make everyone have a comfortable, fun experience!

Safety

How Wade creates a safe table

I have a list of player expectations and safety protocols in my discord server and we can go over specifics during session zero. Notably, Season of Ghosts involves an emphasis on supernatural events, undead creatures, and mental manipulation, so you may be uncomfortable if these themes disturb you. My games have a 10 minute break about midway through the session. Players are encouraged to (publicly or privately) request a break if they are uncomfortable with the game material or discussion. If you need a break for other reasons, we will likely continue the game to the extent possible (other players have paid to be there, after all). My door is always open for discussion. Never feel bad about communicating your critiques, problems, issues with other players, etc. to me. I believe that most problems can be handled through communication.
