About Wade

My name is Wade, a.k.a. the Battle Barrister, and I have been playing D&D on and off since the ancient times of the red Basic Set and AD&D 1st edition. My interests drifted away to athletics, particularly hockey, and focusing on my academics and eventual career as an attorney. I came back to the fold and started playing 5e regularly following a spinal cord injury, thanks in large part to the rise of VTTs as an option to play remotely. I have now come to enjoy life behind the DM/GM screen. I am drawn to the ability to help direct the story and embody numerous characters. Over the past few years my interests have shifted to playing and running Pathfinder 2e. I find it to be an elegant system and enjoy teaching new players. I have recently become what I like to term a semi-pro GM, in that I charge a nominal fee for my services mainly to recoup costs and find players willing to invest their time and effort into the campaign. Along the way, I have developed a handful of repeat clients and fostered a few friendships, and I hope to add to that group.

I got started GMing...

When a friend of mine, a pro GM whom I had been playing with for years, suggested that I try my hand behind the wheel. He gave me a few lessons, I ran a few short PF2e campaigns like the beginner box and Rusthenge, and I was hooked.

People are always surprised when I tell them

How old I am! 😆 Also, my mom is the youngest of 13 children and my dad is one of six boys, and both parents grew up on very rural farms with no indoor plumbing.

How Wade runs games

Probably a terrible cliche, but I like a nice balance of role play and roll play. While certainly not a thespian, I try to inject personality into my role playing and bring the story to life as a group effort. I know many players, particularly new ones, are reluctant to speak up and I work to comfortably bring them out of their shells. I also believe the dice help tell a story, and riffing off unexpected results can lead to some of the most fun moments. Finally, I am exclusively running published adventures at this juncture, but I do tend to change things to help the game flow smoothly and work in elements of the players' backstories.
