In the desolate Village of Barovia there sits an evil house, one the locals call the Death House - few who go in ever make it out. Wonder why that is.

About the adventure
Let's do the Death House differently, shall we? It's a classic staple in any Curse of Strahd campaign and one we've seen time and time again. But what if your Party was level 14? And what if you were ex-cult members returning to see what happened after you escaped 30 years later? This version of the Death House will take inspiration from the Curse of Strahd 5e module, the Vecna: Eve of Ruin 5e module, as well as my own imagination. It will have some classic moments we all know and love and some new horrors to surprise you with. Plus, it's a great opportunity to *finally* get to play something high level and that's a treat we all deserve. This story will be entirely human made. No generative AI images or text will be permitted at this table.

About me
Hello! My name is thewereraven, or Locke (they/he) if you'd prefer. I have been a GM for about 7 years. I really adore the story-telling and character creation aspects of TTRPGs. Creating a collaborative stories with others is just an amazing experience. I would consider myself a writer and a story-teller at heart. I am also a DnD creator on TikTok and cohost of podcast: Darklords & Dragons.

Creating your character
Character creation will start before our first session and I will be available to chat with you for anything you need for this. We will be using Standard Array for stats and we will be using D&D 5e 2014 rules. Magic items will be discussed once you've joined this short campaign! If you'd like access to the online content that I own, feel free to use D&D Beyond to make your character sheet. If you have another way, you'd like to make your sheet, that is also totally fine by me. Anything official D&D 5e 2014 rules is free game. I am open to third party resources as long as you run it by me first for approval. If you'd like to book a one on one so I can help you make your character, you can absolutely do so for $10.
We currently have a fighter, bard, and wizard in our Party.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
For preparation for this short horror campaign, you will need to create your character beforehand. You will need both discord and roll20 accounts. And you will need access to a webcam and mic for the sessions and feel comfortable using both as that does help me read the table and ensure everyone is having a good time as well as promote safety in a horror setting.
What Locke brings to the table
I am an RP and story-focused DM, much preferring to use combat as makes sense narratively. That being said, this particular campaign has lots of opportunities for combat based on player choices, so this one could potentially go more 50/50 RP to Combat depending on that. I also attempt to do my best voices for NPCs, but would definitely not call myself a talented voice actor, and provide spooky ambient music tailored specifically for each campaign. I embrace the Rule of Cool and love hearing players' ideas that will allow for sick story moments. I do ask that my campaigns stay human made. This is a collaborative horror story experience and I want to hear and see that from you! So no genAI is allowed at this table.
Homebrew rules
1.) Drinking a potion yourself is a BONUS ACTION. Administering a potion to another character is an ACTION however. 2.) Always get the green light for any romance at the table. 3.) Death Saves are rolled and sent to me privately. I always ask for the downed player to share a memory that is flashing before their eyes during this roll, so keep that in mind. 4.) Flanking will grant you advantage in combat. You and your ally must be in a straight line on opposite sides of your opponent for it to work.

How Locke creates a safe table
We will be having a Session 0 before beginning to go over any and all information you may need to know. Before Session 0, I will be sending out the Monte Cook RPG Consent form to be filled out and all boundaries listed within will be respected throughout. We will also use X and fast forward cards as needed in gameplay sessions and will always have at least one 10 min midway break. After a session ends, there will be the opportunity to hang out for a debrief with the entire table, and I am always available to message in between sessions for anything you may want to discuss one on one.
