About the adventure
In the small town of Vanthiren, on the planet of Sune (Soo-neh), all seems picturesque and peaceful to the eye of a passerby or lodging tourist. The town is full of green grass and vibrant flowers and many a tall, flourishing tree. The buildings are all well-kept, and during the day, children can be seen laughing and playing as if there was not a care in their minds. Sheep meander about; their shepherds and sheepdogs close by. Yet, if one is a keen observer, you might notice that no matter how hot the day becomes, no one that resides there is ever seen in the shade, yet alone not at night, and the children playing seem to be more watchful than one might think a carefree child would be. At night, the streets are all completely empty, save for a few guards that remain in the light of a fire or lamp post, never once leaving it unless a dire necessity. You might notice that all the buildings are lit inside, even at night, every window emitting a warm glow. If you were to visit, the local barkeep or hotel tender would tell you to avoid the shade, and to not travel at night unless an emergency, and then you must carry a bright light. If you were to ask why that is, you would be met with silence of the mouth, but a fearful, warning glance of the eye, and a shake of the head. If you were to disobey and prowl about at night, you might see a heedless, wandering drunk disappear into thin are or slide down into solid ground, and eerily fading wail escaping their lips. You, brave adventurer, have heard tales about what lurks in the shade and at night. In towns nearby you have heard bards singing of a creature in Vanthiren that can only be found or seen where light fails to tread. Since all who are thought to have seen this creature have vanished, never to be seen or heard from again, nobody knows what it looks like. But some say, that if you open a window at night or stand near the shade, you can hear the faint pleading cries of those who have fallen victim, and a faint, garbled and growling speech coming from somewhere within. Some say it is a physical creature, some say it is a god, some say it is an unseen force, but everyone agrees that it has somehow broken their heart or the heart of someone they know. At the bequest of a prominent judge who disappeared after a tumultuous hearing, many a lover missing their beloved, many a child missing their parent, many a parent missing their child, and many a friend missing a friend, you venture into the town to investigate and hopefully quell whatever evil may be lurking with the bounds of Vanthiren.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I'm building an expansive RPG world, a multiverse that merges fantasy, sci-fi, cyperpunk, and philosophical bends. I am looking to run more games to further develop, receive feedback on, and fund my game launch. I also run games for D&D. Being a Game Master is my passion—I love weaving stories on the fly and embracing the unexpected twists my players create. I craft the world, and you bring the story to life. Let’s dive in, have fun, and create an epic adventure together! Most games are currently run virtually, but in-person games are available at an appropriate public location for $50 per player per session.

Creating your character
The outline of a players character should be submitted to D&D Beyond with a link in the Discord or DM'd directly to me at least one week prior to session 0. Prior to session 0, or during session 0, we can work on balancing and fleshing them out.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a microphone, and access to Discord, D&D Beyond, and Roll20. We love it if you have a webcam, but if you don't that is ok. I also suggest utilizing something to take a few notes. This campaign has complex elements and clues that carry from one session to another. I also suggest taking some time to practice roleplaying your character.
What MJ brings to the table
Custom maps and tokens, D&D Beyond content, music during certain parts of gameplay, and some NPC illustrations are provided. You an expect a very imaginative game with lots of opportunities for improve and creativity! I use voice acting for NPCs, and combat can be very tactical at times. I mostly embrace the Rule of Cool, so long as it does not override any of the firm rules of respect and tenants listed here and in the game description section. While players are allowed to dive into extreme roleplay, I would like to remind players that what happens in game, stays in the game. If at any time you are triggered or have an issue, you may DM me directly or leave and take a break. We can all do our best to support each other and enjoy our play. Any sort of harassment against a player (differentiated from the character the player is playing as) will result in automatic dismissal from the game. Any assault against a player that is disguised as an assault against a game character will be investigated, and will result in automatic dismissal if found to be true. This is a queer, all-faith, and all-ethnicity friendly space, and any sort of assault in or out of game against a players ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, or any other such thing will result in automatic dismissal. Upon entry into the Discord Server, please read over the policies in the #channel-session-rules channel as well as the pinned message at the top of the #welcome channel.

How MJ creates a safe table
I will be sending a Google ShareDrive link for the Lines and Veils document, with space for each player to provide their input. During our session 0, we will discuss general gameplay, rules, and any preferences or triggers anyone would like to share. After session, we can chat on video or via text about how things went. You can DM me at any time.
