About the adventure

Once tiny pests of dungeons and traps, this band of kobolds was spared by a group of adventurers—and now they’ve been given a chance at an honest life. Tasked with earning coin, completing jobs, and proving themselves in a world built for much larger heroes, they must navigate towns, dungeons, and forests full of danger, cunning, and opportunity. This is a lighthearted, story-driven Dungeons & Dragons 5e campaign perfect for players who enjoy humor, clever problem-solving, and character-driven antics. While combat is present, the focus is on creative solutions, social encounters, and the chaos of being small in a world that isn’t built for you. Your kobolds’ quirks, personalities, and teamwork will be central to the story. This campaign is designed as a short adventure of 3–6 sessions, making it perfect for players looking for a complete story without a long-term commitment. It’s built for beginners, as the tone is playful, the rules are approachable, and I provide guidance throughout character creation and play. It is also is a great way for players wanting to try a new subclass. Join the smallest heroes in the valley, prove that size doesn’t matter, and see if your kobolds can truly make a mark on the world.

About me

Hi there! My name is Jack Dion and I’m a relatively new Dungeon Master with about a year of experience running D&D 5e & 5.5e, and I absolutely love creating fun, memorable adventures for players of all kinds. I run games on Foundry VTT for online sessions and we’ll use Discord for voice. My style is flexible—I enjoy everything from lighthearted, whimsical campaigns to darker, more serious stories. Whether you’re brand new to D&D or a seasoned adventurer, you’re welcome at my table. I’m patient with new players, tolerant of different playstyles, and I take the time to provide custom quick-reference guides to help with character builds. I mix in both official content and homebrew, so every game has something familiar and something fresh. Most importantly, I aim to make the game inclusive and welcoming. I’m LGBTQIA+ friendly and believe everyone deserves a safe, supportive space to play and tell stories together. If you’re looking for a DM who’s excited to collaborate with you and help create stories you’ll remember, I’d love to roll some dice with you!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together either during Session 0 or between Session 0 and Session 1. Stats will be rolled at the table, and characters will be built directly in Foundry VTT (no need to bring a paper sheet unless you want one for reference). The campaign starts at Level 3, so your character will already be seasoned enough to have a backstory but still early in their adventuring career. Most official 5e class/subclass (2014 ruleset) are welcome. During Session 0, we’ll also collaborate on character backstories and connections.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have Discord downloaded and set up (this will be our main hub for communication, scheduling, and updates). Make sure you have a working mic/headset so we can all hear each other clearly. That’s it! All character sheets and play will happen in Foundry VTT, which I’ll provide access to once the game starts. No extra accounts or downloads needed.

What Tiny Kobold Hands brings to the table

As your GM, I focus on creating a deeply immersive experience that balances story, tension, and player agency. You can expect: In-depth and Quick-Reference Character Build Guides – Whether you want a deep dive into mechanics or a fast overview, I provide resources to make character creation and play smooth and intuitive. Custom Virtual Miniature - You can create a custom mini via the Hero Forge and I will provide Virtual top-down tokens and portraits for your character sheets. Immersive Atmosphere – I use music, ambient sounds, and descriptive narration to pull you into the world, setting the tone for suspenseful, eerie, or cinematic moments. Flexible, Rule-of-Cool Gameplay – I prioritize fun and creativity over rigid adherence to rules when it enhances the story or player experience, while still respecting the core framework of the 2014 5e ruleset. Character Voices- I’ll try my best to give each NPC their own voice and personality—some will be better than others, but all are meant to add immersion, humor, and depth to the story. Story-Driven Challenges – Puzzles, mysteries, and encounters are designed to test creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. Tactical and Meaningful Combat – When combat occurs, it’s tense, strategic, and consequential, designed to challenge players while rewarding clever approaches. Collaborative Storytelling – I weave your character’s backstory, choices, and personal arcs into the narrative, so your actions genuinely shape the campaign. Player Support – I’m available to answer questions, discuss homebrew rules, and help troubleshoot character builds or strategies outside of sessions.

Homebrew rules

Stat Rolling – I use a Group stat method that combines point buy and dice rolling. Free Level 1 Feat – All characters start with one feat at 1st level. Death Save System – Death saving throws become progressively more difficult the more your character dies and is revived. Flanking Bonus Instead of Advantage – Flanking provides a bonus to attack rolls rather than granting full advantage. Potions as a Bonus Action – You can drink a potion as a bonus action, but require a roll to determine effectiveness. Action to avoid the roll . Help Action for Skills – To assist another player’s skill check, you must be proficient in that skill. If not, you may pitch a creative idea to justify helping. Hidden Death Saving Throws – Your death saving throws are rolled secretly to keep suspense high.

Safety

How Tiny Kobold Hands creates a safe table

I use is a consent checklist, which is based on the Lines & Veils system. Before the campaign begins, I send all players a form that lets them mark content as green (okay), yellow (okay only if it’s veiled/offstage), or red (a hard line that won’t appear in the game). There’s also space to list specific triggers or boundaries. After everyone fills it out, I compile the responses into a single master sheet. That way, no one knows who set which boundaries, but the whole table has a clear understanding of what’s safe and what isn’t. This ensures we’re all on the same page before the game begins and makes the table more comfortable for everyone.
