About the adventure
The Savage Frontier is in chaos. Giants stride across the land, storms lash the skies, and entire villages vanish without a trace. This campaign is a custom reimagining of Storm King’s Thunder for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. You’ll be recruited to help defend Triboar and investigate strange happenings in the region. As the campaign unfolds, you’ll confront the growing threat of the giants and uncover the greater forces pulling the strings. This game is for players who love... Epic adventures that start small and grow to world-shaking stakes Exploration, investigation, and battles with plenty of player choice and freedom Memorable NPCs, personal character arcs, and a living world that reacts to your actions New to D&D? No problem! This game welcomes both beginners and veterans. We’ll build the story together, and your characters will have every chance to shine. Bring your sword, your spellbook, or your silver tongue. The Savage Frontier needs heroes.

About me
Hey all! I'm new to being a professional GM however I'm been GMing and playing 5e since 2017 and have done a mixture of homebrew and official content! Looking forward to meeting new people and making new memories together!

Creating your character
Character creation will be a part of session 0 and we'll go over creating of the sheets (with the assumption we've previously discussed about your character and who they are). I have use the three standard methods but bump them all up: Standard Array - 17, 15, 14, 12, 10, 8 Point buy - 37 points (instead of 27) and max stat of 17 (instead of 15) Rolling method - reroll 1s until you don't get a 1 Preferably all sheets will be on Roll20 but if people want to use DnDBeyond or something like that that's fine but I'd like to see the sheet. All official content is accepted, the only thing to note is I ban races that give a Free Feat (Variant Human, Custom Lineage) this is because I give all characters a free feat (from a selection) at level 1.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll only need a discord and roll20 account. They'll be a discord server where we'll text and call and all the info about the world will be (like house rules I have like a Luck Point system) and roll20 is where the character sheets and maps will be for playing the game.
What Jack brings to the table
I like to think how I run games as linear yet loose, yes there is a linear story that acts as the main plot but if that linear story was a line it wouldn't be straight, it would go one direction but would bend and curve and go in loops as I like and promote my players to explore their surroundings. In this game Triboar will act as a home base for the players, feel free to exploring it, get to know the NPCs and make relationships and maybe even find secrets. There are dozens of stones in the story, if you want to turn them over and see what lies beneath then please do so! I do put on voices which could just be an accent or maybe a change in tone or cadence to try and distinguish the different NPCs, I am by no means a voice actor! I do use a music bot called SonCraft for music during the games which people can either listen to or their own music whatever you feel like. I use battlemaps for my combat so players can try and use the terrain and what they see to their advantage, maybe you're on a platform and there's a large chain dangling from the ceiling and you ask me "Can I grab the chain and use it to swing and drop kick the giant?" I'll respond the only way I know how "F**K YEAH! ROLL TO HIT!" I also try and make combat fast paced to keep the action going, I strongly encourage players to always think about their next turn when it isn't their current turn so when it gets to their turn they already know and are excited about their plans.
Homebrew rules
Critical Hits When a character critically hits an attack roll, the damage will be the maximum of 1 set of dice and will roll an additional set (e.g. if you get a crit with a fire bolt which is 1d10, the critical hit damage will be 10+1d10) Until the PCs reach level 3, enemies can't do critical damage I Know A Guy Once during the campaign each player can say "I Know A Guy" and briefly come up with the basic details of the NPC and how they can help the party (name & where they are plus any additional info), after the session we'll establish them more as a character and I will insert an additional note regarding the NPC (e.g. This blacksmith character was working on a ruined sword they were sent by their old master) Long Rest Inspiration Upon finishing a long rest, each PC gains an inspiration. Luck Points Every time a character fails an ability check or saving throw or misses an attack, they gain one luck point. They can only hold up to five luck points. They can spend one luck point to get +1 to a D20 roll after they roll but before the result is said (can spend more than one for up to a +5). They can spend three luck points to re-roll a d20 check. Recharge at the End of Turns Recharge abilities on NPCs and Monsters now happen at the end of a monsters turn rather than at the start.

How Jack creates a safe table
I have a Lines and Veils forms for the players to complete that will show my boundaries but also question the players on theirs and will also have a section for their wishes and wants from the game, what they want to get out of it. In the session 0 we'll go over these and post the results (in an anonymous way, simply stating what the lines and the veils are and checking if anyone has any questions, no one needs to justify their boundaries at all.) Also will make it clear that my door is always open to talk about the campaign, the good, the bad, anything in between and I also will check in on players after the session, make sure everyone had fun. To keep them private and to avoid risk of judgement, all Xs and Ns are to be me messaged to me in DMs, this is so I hear the notification and can instantly see and address it and if I can sense someone becoming uncomfortable I will check in with them. There's also going to be a Stars and Wishes form, which I'll post after every session which players can fill in if they'd like and will have an optional session for their name if theyd like to be anonymous.
