About the adventure
“I have a friend, gifted with more beauty than brains, who decided after a few drinks to walk home alone last night. He's now gone missing and I need some capable hands to find him. May I prevail upon you in my hour of need?” -Volothamp Geddarm, self-styled chronicler, wizard, and celebrity. Welcome to Waterdeep, the Crown of the North, where a wondrous tale of urban adventure is about to unfold. Our story begins with the gathering of adventurers at the Yawning Portal Inn and Tavern. Volothamp Geddarm, the famous explorer and raconteur, has a quest for them — one that unexpectedly entangles the characters in a bitter conflict between two nefarious organizations. If the adventurers complete his quest, Volo rewards them handsomely. Yet a much greater prize lies hidden somewhere in the City of Splendors, waiting to be claimed. This is a Mini-Campaign tackling the adventures from the source book in smaller sections, each 3-4 sessions. The content has been upgraded from the original and is set for Level 3 characters using 2014 or 2024 rules.

About me
I have come here to chew bubble gum and crush campaigns. And I'm all out of bubble gum! I love both roleplay and combat and tailor the ratio to the needs of the table. I've run a combat and exploration focused Tomb of Annihilation campaign as well as a roleplay heavy and whimsical Wild Beyond the Witchlight. I can be funny, silly, serious, or weird, and I'm not afraid to improvise and follow the needs of players, even if that means going off the rails or side-questing on a whim. I've been running games on Startplaying for over 3 years and running home campaigns over 30 years. I have a ton of experience and I often bring my own stories, art, and maps to the table. Current Campaigns on Startplaying: Monday 10am EST - Crooked Moon Monday 2pm EST - One-shots Tuesday 10am EST - Vecna: Eve of Ruin Tuesday 3pm EST - Call of the Netherdeep Wednesday 10am EST - Call of the Netherdeep Wednesday 2pm EST - Hoard of the Dragon Queen Thursday 7pm EST - Vecna: Eve of Ruin Friday 2pm EST - Call of the Netherdeep Completed Campaigns on Startplaying: Tomb of Annihilation Storm King’s Thunder Candlekeep (2x) Wild Beyond the Witchlight (3x) Spelljammer: Light of Xaryxis (3x) Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel (2x) Keys from the Golden Vault Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen (x2) Book of Many Things (Level 1-11) Adventure Academy (Level 1-10 homebrew) Planescape: Turn of Fortune’s Wheel x2 Curse of Strahd Liveplay Streams: Wild Beyond the Witchlight https://youtu.be/N_fFk-FZcE0?si=2z7wg4Ow6p8zPYN- Curse of Strahd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcJAqFFseKg&t=71s

Homebrew rules
**Class restrictions:** 2014 or 2024 allowed. Non-core classes need to be cleared ahead of time. **Subclass restrictions:** 2014 or 2024 allowed. Non-core subclasses need to be cleared ahead of time. **Species restrictions:** Bugbear racial sneak attack functions like a rogue’s sneak attack (only once per turn) **Spell restrictions: ** We are using 2024 versions of pre-existing spells. 2014 spells are allowed if no updated version exists. Non-core and homebrew spells need to be cleared ahead of time. No conjure minor elements No silvery barbs Emanation spells (Spirit Guardians, Moonbeam, Conjure Animals, etc) use 2014 rules - damage when a target enters the emanation, starts their turn inside, or if they end their turn inside, limited to 1 per turn. **Backgrounds:** No backgrounds from Ravnica, Strixhaven, Eberron, or Dragonlance allowed outside those settings. **Background Bonus Feats:** If your background doesn't come with a feat you'll be able to choose one from a limited list below. Dual Wielder Healer Magic Initiate Martial Adept Savage Attacker Skilled Tough **Paladin Smite:** I allow 1 free smite on a character’s turn. No bonus action required unless the smite is one of the actual smite spells, like thunderous smite, which needs to be declared before an attack. **Grapple, Push, and Shove rules:** To attempt one of these you roll a character’s unarmed strike bonus vs a defendant’s Defense DC, which is calculated as Base 10 + proficiency bonus + strength or dexterity bonus. (any bonus to hit from bless, bardic, flanking, etc. applies) **Disarm rules: ** Similar to the Grapple, Push, and Shove rules above, but a weapon attack can substitute for the attacker’s bonus on the roll. **Surprise rules:** I use the 2014 surprise rules. Surprised creatures have reactions in the first round only after their initiative has come up. **Magic items:** No eversmoking bottles No warning weapons
