Creating your character

Character creation is flexible and collaborative, this is your game, after all. The details below reflect my typical starting framework, but everything can be discussed and adjusted to suit your vision. I’ll be using Discord to guide you through character creation. If you’re new, don’t worry, this game is open to players of all experience levels, and I’m happy to answer questions and offer support at any time. Homebrew (custom content) and third-party materials are welcome, and even encouraged! That said, if something seems too powerful, we’ll work together to rebalance it for fairness and fun. I’m open to custom races, special abilities, and unique concepts to help you build the character you really want to play. Character Creation Basics: • Homebrew based on approval. • Level 1 start • Gain a free feat at Level 1. • Point buy or standard array. 2024 rules or legacy allowed. • Begin with maximum HP. • Start with one or two magic items (within reason). • Receive standard starting gear.

Preparing for the session

This is an asynchronous, text-based play-by-post game hosted on Discord using the Avrae bot. The game is designed for one-on-one play, though players are welcome to join together as a group if desired. Posts will be made throughout the week at the group’s pace, with the GM updating at least once daily. All gameplay is conducted via text, making it accessible for those who prefer or require non-voice communication. You’ll experience immersive storytelling and rich roleplay while also learning, or gaining more experience with, the play-by-post format and the Avrae system. Once you sign up, the listing will give you the Discord link, Privately message me and we’ll get you set up and ready to go. The game will begin once everyone is prepared and the game is set to active, and you won’t be charged until play officially starts.

How The DM Nick creates a safe table

Players can expect session zero to cover introductions, discussion and setting up of Story, as well as discussions of what players want and don’t want in the story. The discussion (Session 0) will attempt to be as thorough as possible to cover all possible bases. Safety tools will always be in effect—this game is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for all players. We’ll be using safety cards, lines and veils, and any other tools the group may need to ensure everyone’s comfort. I’m neurodiverse and an LGBTQIA+ ally, and I’m committed to creating a respectful and accessible environment. Accommodations will be made whenever needed so everyone can fully enjoy the game.
