About the adventure
Storm-lashed seas, treacherous shoals, and hidden harbors form the backdrop of this seafaring adventure. Once-thriving kingdoms have collapsed, and now survival hinges on sails, steel, and sharp wits. From fledgling refugee towns to wary fishing villages, each island tells a different story—of resilience, superstition, and secrets best left undisturbed. This is a world of uncertainty and danger. Shadows stir beneath the waves, and monsters creep into abandoned coasts. The tone is grim, edged with suspense and horror—but not without laughter and levity. Humor and camaraderie cut through the storm, reminding everyone that even in the darkest seas, a shared joke or a triumphant cheer can keep hope alive. The game is designed for players of all experience levels. Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned sailor, the focus is always on you—the choices you make, the puzzles you solve, and the battles you fight. Expect tense ship-to-ship combat, mysteries hidden in driftwood and drowned ruins, and plenty of opportunities to grow your character. Above all, this is a player-first story. Rules flex to fit the crew, not the other way around. With vivid visuals, immersive sounds, and a table built on trust and fun, every session is meant to draw you deeper into the Isles—into a place where your skills sharpen, your bonds grow, and your legend takes shape on the restless seas of the Scattered Isles. You might even run into evidence of the other groups exploits…and they yours as you make an impact on this world.

About me
Hello! My name is Ed, and I love to create memorable, engaging and welcoming scenarios for people of all kinds! I have been playing tabletop RPGs off and on for the last 16 odd years, with Dungeons and Dragons in its many editions being the main focus, while also playing Cyberpunk, Battletech TTRPG, Homebrew Rulesets, and many others. I've been honing my GM'ing skills just as long, with a major focus being applied over the last 5 years. Professionally I've spent my whole life with a customer/people driven mindset, and have spent years as a manager and facilitator. I also have a background in training, and love teaching new players how to play TTRPGs. I hope to bring this skillset, and use it as a jumping point to create enjoyable group experiences with players.

Creating your character
-Everything within officially printed sources (PHB, Zanathar’s Guide, Etc.) would be available for character creation. I’d be open to working with things outside of this, would just require a conversation and some conversion on Foundry VTT, our virtual tabletop. (I’m easy to reach here or on Discord.) -All characters must be made in D&D Beyond in order to streamline import and play. -We will be sticking to the new 2024 Rules as much as possible. When creating a character, stick to non-legacy content. -We will use the Point-Buy method for attributes when creating characters to keep things relatively fair. -I would also request that you include one flaw and one ideal instead of an alignment when making a character to help guide you if you are unsure how they would act. (You are encouraged to take more.) -Added weapon class: (Sabre - 1d8 slashing damage martial weapon) can be swapped out for a rapier or similar on starting equipment once we've imported your character. -Guns, such as the Pistol and Musket can be taken, but have slightly different rules stated in homebrew rules below.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
1. Make an account on discord if you don't have one already, join my discord server where voice is hosted. (Link will be provided once you've joined.) 2.Make sure your name matches or has a tag with your name on StartPlaying.Games to allow me to match you to the correct channels within the server. 3. Create a character on DnDBeyond.com. (Make sure to follow the guidelines listed above and reach out if you have any trouble or problem.) 4. Send the link to the character sheet to me via that discord or direct message. (Not the PDF, the actual link to the characters page on DnDBeyond.) 5. [Optional] - Send any backstory, story beats you want to see met, or any lines and veils (things you don't want to experience or would rather avoid or gloss over) to me via DM's or on the discord server under your parties title heading, in the appropriate channels. I often stop, or at least check in, at the half way point for bio breaks and such. Please come prepared as you feel you need and are ready to engage. All notes can be taken in game, and in character conversations via text will be logged within the Discord server under the party's personal channel. Links to the Foundry VTT server being used will be placed in the channel titled "game links" within the Discord server directly before the game.
What Edward brings to the table
When you sit down to play in The Scattered Isles, you’ll step into a fully realized world built to immerse you from the first scene. Expect rich maps, atmospheric soundscapes, and interactive details—from loot piles you can rummage through to merchants with their own quirks and inventories. The world is alive, and I’ll give you plenty of ways to poke at it, experiment, and shape it through your choices. Combat is tactical and intense. Ship-to-ship battles test teamwork and positioning, while on land you’ll face enemies that demand both strategy and grit. Just as often, you’ll be presented with puzzles, mysteries, and challenges that require creativity and collaboration. This is a game for players who like to think on their feet and take bold chances—but who also enjoy the satisfaction of a plan coming together. When it comes to rules, my table runs on three principles: Rule of Cool, Rule of Fun, and Rule of Empowerment. That means if you dream up something wild and cinematic that fits the moment, I’ll do my best to make it work—as long as it keeps the game balanced and fair for everyone. I want you to feel powerful, clever, and impactful, while still earning your victories through skill and teamwork. Above all, I want this to be a collaborative story. I’ll give you the tools, atmosphere, and challenges—but it’s your choices and your characters that steer the ship. Whether you’re new to the seas or a veteran adventurer, the Isles are yours to explore, and your legend is waiting to be written.
Homebrew rules
-New rules may be added at the DM/Party’s discretion! -Spell requirements are only tracked when the costs exceed 25gp. -Ritual spells don't trigger wild magic. -We will be using a custom Critical Hit and Critical Fumble Table. In which when you roll a 20 or a 1 on an attack roll, you will roll on a chart for an additional effect. -The prices for some items, magic or otherwise, will be customized outside of the normal DMG pricing. -A character may only be attuned to one Instrument of the Bards at a time. Added Weapon Classes: Sabre - 1d8 slashing damage martial weapon - Finesse, Light - can be swapped out for a rapier or similar on starting equipment. Pistol - 1d10 Piercing damage martial ranged weapon - Reload 1, Misfire 1 , Musket - 1d12 Piercing damage martial ranged weapon - Reload 1, Misfire 2, Two-Handed, Blunderbuss - 2d8 Piercing damage martial ranged weapon - Reload 1, Misfire 2, Two-Handed, FIREARM RULES: -Reload The weapon can be fired a number of times equal to its Reload score before you must spend 1 attack or 1 action to reload. You must have one free hand to reload a firearm. -Ammunition All firearms require ammunition to make an attack, ammunition may be difficult at times to find or purchase. However, if materials are gathered, you can craft ammunition yourself using Tinker’s Tools at a discount to cost. -Misfire Whenever you make an attack roll with a firearm, and the dice roll is equal to or lower than the weapon’s Misfire score, the weapon misfires. The attack misses, and the weapon cannot be used again until you spend an action to repair it. DUE TO A LIMITATION IN FOUNDRY AT THE TIME, MISFIRES WILL BE TRACKED MANUALLY.

How Edward creates a safe table
The new player document will outline in more detail what to expect from the campaign, but please be forthcoming with your personal Lines and Veils. Both before the game and during. I will have options available both during games and out of games to contact me with this information, as well as a clear and easy system to implement the X,N,O model directly into the VTT itself if it is desired by anyone at the table. I will not be interested in inter-party relations, sex, child abuse and animal abuse. Session 0 will cover expectations at the table, both for myself and for players, as well as get a feel for the tone the group generally wants to stick to. We can also discuss Stars and Wishes and to process to send feedback.
