About the adventure

You were all game devs responsible for the most popular VHS game of all time: The Reckoning. Twenty years later, your team was brought back together at DEVCON to launch the MMORPG version slated to go live at the end of the week. The original team consists of: - The Writer: Came up with the story - The Artist: Designed the game board and visuals - The Director: Corralled the creative forces to get them in line - The Producer: Provided funding for the game and got the deal for the MMORPG inked - The Videographer: Recorded all the video and audio elements - The Actor: The main character for the VHS portion DIE RPG is a roleplaying game based on the comic of the same name. In DIE, you play a group of authentically flawed and desperate real-world people (Personas) who are sucked into a cursed roleplaying game and take on the form of heroes, villains and power players (Paragons). No experience needed. DIE is an easy game to pick up and play. Character sheets will be provided, and character generation is done together as a group.

About me

I am the co-producer of Kill Every Monster and the co-founder of Dead Ghost Productions. I run custom Dungeons and Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, MASKS, Vampire the Masquerade, DIE RPG, and Star Trek Adventures campaigns (plus a few more systems I am pretty good at). I like to tell vivid, relevant stories that give plenty of room for the players at my table to carve out their own pieces of the world via their character backstories and connections. I am also the co-founder of Dead Ghost Productions (deadghostpro.com) and the co-producer of the Dungeons and Dragons podcast, Kill Every Monster (killeverymonster.com)

Character creation

Creating your character

Character and world creation will happen together at the table. DIE RPG has a unique system where you play a real-world Persona who gets sucked into a alternate fantasy reality and becomes a Paragon. Think Goth Jumanji. You met in high school and played a game. Many years later, you are reuniting to play again. I will guide the group through a series of questions about their characters, their shared history, and what has happened to them since leaving school. In answering these questions, you will create your real-world Persona and your transformation into the super-powered Paragons of our DIE RPG world. Don't worry about the rules of DIE RPG or preparation. Everything you need to know and play the game will be presented in this first session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a webcam, a microphone, and an internet connection. You will also need several d6's and 1 special die (either a d4, d6, d8, d10, or d12, depending on your Paragon). Character sheets will be provided for you to fill out.

Safety

How Aram creates a safe table

In DIE RPG you generate a group of real world people, who then sit down to play a role-playing game, before getting dragged into a fantasy world which is warped by the real-world people's hopes and fears. Individual characters may struggle with their identities, but no outward pressure will take place in the story. No racism, sexism, homophobia, misogyny, or ableism occurs on-screen in my games. The world of DIE RPG feeds on the insecurities and failures of the people who enter it. The tone can be dark and disturbing, and character death is a real possibility. We will all fill out Lines and Veils anonymously. Some subjects are baked into the premise of the game, including: - Body Horror - Classism - Guns - Mind Control and Mind Alteration (if the Dictator is included) - Trauma - Violence - Warfare My goal is to help guide a story that hits strong fantasy and horror notes, but the most important thing is to be sure everyone involved is comfortable with the story being told. DIE RPG is an intense game that can expose thoughts and feelings we may not have been aware of going in. At any point in the game, any player can X out of any situation openly or anonymously to ensure the safety of everyone at the table. After each session we will hand out our stars and announce our wishes for upcoming games.
