About the adventure

This official Start Here Adventure for Draw Steel lets you distinguish yourself as heroes, delve for ancient treasures, and help a village in need! It's filled with classic fantasy goodness: goblins, bandits, evil magicks, foul monsters, rival adventurers, and powerful treasures! Get to know the inhabitants of the village of Broadhurst, unravel the mysteries of the surrounding areas, and face epic encounters! Jump right into the game and learn the rules as we play - no need for any prep in advance. You can expect Draw Steel to be: ⚔️Tactical. Positioning, teamwork, and individual choices matter. ✨Heroic. Leave the scale at home - no need to worry about counting arrows or tracking the minutiae of encumbrance. 🎥Cinematic. Every ability has a strong visual and narrative component, like you're the main cast of a movie. Whether you are looking for your first tabletop roleplaying game, an RPG veteran interested in trying out Draw Steel, or a huge fan of MCDM that has been playing since the playtests and can't wait to join a campaign, this is the table for you! This game will be using early access software as our virtual tabletop: Draw Steel Codex. It's a great opportunity to see what's in store before final release, but you should also be ready to encounter bugs, crashes, or other glitches that might disrupt our play. If you wish, you'll have the opportunity to report any issues or feature requests to the DMHub team developing Codex.

About me

I was a part of playtesting for Draw Steel (find me in tiny print in the books!) and have been directing it since its release. It's currently my go-to TTRPG system! I was in grad school when some friends introduced me to Pathfinder. I couldn't believe there were mechanics for all the world building I used to do for fun. I've been hooked on TTRPGs since! I enjoy a wide variety of systems and love learning and teaching new games. I focus on fun and providing a collaborative storytelling and problem-solving experience.

Character creation

Creating your character

You may choose from the MCDM starter characters on a first-come, first serve basis or create your own character. If creating your own character, it should be built at first level using the Codex character builder. You can also add artwork and a theme song for your character within the Codex. I'm available to help! You can get in touch with me on our Discord server with questions, for recommendations to build the concept you have in mind, or tips for creating pop out tokens! If creating your own character it should be shared with me at least 24 hours before the session. Otherwise, you'll need to use an existing starter character. Characters in this campaign should be heroic -- willing to spend their time and risk their safety to help others. The adventure relies on having a group who wants to work together for the greater good. Optionally, you can also share the following: * One to three objects, places, or people that are important to your character * What led to your character taking up the adventuring life? * What is the primary goal your character has right now?

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need to have a Discord account and join a server for our game. We'll use a Voice/Video channel (cameras are optional!) in the server for gameplay. We'll use the Draw Steel Codex as our Virtual Tabletop. You will need to purchase the Codex through Steam and download and install it prior to the first session. If you've purchased the Draw Steel rulebooks, you'll receive a discount code (if you have the PDFs) or free copy (if you have the physical books) of the Codex. You'll need to select a character from the MCDM provided starter characters or create your own character. If you're creating your own character, you'll need to send it to me at least 24 hours before our session (and remember, I'm available to help!) You'll need to fill out a safety sheet to ensure we can avoid topics that you don't want to encounter in a roleplaying game! This game is PG-13 and will feature fantasy violence. You do not need to read or watch anything in advance - we'll learn the rules as we play!

What Emma brings to the table

I like to be my players' biggest cheerleader! I want to set up challenges that allow you to do really cool things and cheer you on when you pull it off (and I'll help with mechanical details as needed!) I always try to make sure that rules and stakes are clear; there are no "gotcha" moments in my games. We'll play primarily with theatre of the mind, then move to grid maps for tactical encounters. Foes, terrain, and dynamic environments are the obstacles to important objectives; you won't just slog through a bag of monster HP and you'll get to make decisions beyond which baddie to hit with your sword.

Safety

How Emma creates a safe table

Before the game, you'll be able to anonymously share any lines, veils, and interests via a Google form. During the game, you can share an X card via Discord direct message or within our game channel. We'll have a scheduled break halfway through each session and players are encouraged to leave the table at any point as needed. After each game, we'll debrief to highlight awesome moments during the session and share what we'd like to see more or less of.
