About the adventure

You’re an adventurer in a world the gods abandoned long ago. The ruins of the old world contain dark secrets sealed away by powerful entities. The people around you fear the consequences of delving into those cursed places and disturbing the creatures living there. Though they’ve been dormant for as long as you can remember, those creatures that dwell in the crumbling remnants of a once great civilization are starting to wake up and threaten the new society you and your community are trying to build. You start to hear rumors of gigantic figures causing the ground to shake as they move through the forests, towering above the tree canopy. Some say an ancient entity has been raising giant, horrifying creatures that are wreaking havoc across the land. There are whispers about new cults to powerful beings looking to fill the divine power vacuum. Others reject those warnings as heretical and paranoid. Wherever you fall in those debates, something you know to be true is that several Sacred Pyres, beacons of hope and safety at the heart of every settlement that dot the night sky, have recently been extinguished… Are you interested in being apart of creating a story filled with high stakes and tension? Do you want to fight giant monsters in big, cinematic combats? Would you like to participate in collaborative worldbuilding and make meaningful choices about the setting and narrative that takes place within that setting? We'll be playing Daggerheart from levels 1-10. This game will be beginner friendly, no previous TTRPG experience required! I'll explain the basic rules and guide the character creation process in session 0. I'll be using a custom built combination of the Age of Umbra and the Colossus of the Drylands campaign frames from the core rule book. Daggerheart has the potential to be a very collaborative game, with players being able to take part in world building, and I love to lean into that style of play. In this game, you will be asked questions about details of the world for you to fill in and for me to build off of, and the shape of the campaign as a whole will largely be driven by what you and your fellow players find interesting and how you all build your characters. If all of that sounds fun and exciting to you, then this is the right table for you!

About me

Hello, I'm Celeste! I'm queer, nonbinary, trans femme (they/them), and I've been playing in and running TTRPGs with my friends for about 6 years. I also have a lot of experience facilitating TTRPG therapy groups, and really enjoy creating spaces for people to explore different ways of being in the context of role playing whether that's in a therapy group or not. I also love stories, and co-creating them with a group of people is my favorite way to experience them. My main goal when I'm GMing is to facilitate the table making a fun and interesting story together, and I deeply appreciate players at the table who are as committed to that goal as I am. I've enjoyed all kinds of fantasy and sci-fi media since I was a kid and love to co-create stories in those types of settings with others. I'm particularly interested in running narrative focused games with more role play, but also enjoy some amount of tactical and cinematic combat. I love more collaborative games that involve players making up some information about the world and giving me opportunities to build on their contributions. This also lends itself to more player driven, sandbox type campaigns, which suit my style well. It's important to me to maintain an inclusive and respectful atmosphere at my tables. I won't allow for any racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc at my tables. Also, I'll never use AI for my listings or in my games.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at level 1. Characters will be created on Demiplane in session 0. Coming to session 0 with some character concepts is encouraged, but I would like character creation to be collaborative and done with more context about the campaign. Daggerheart is designed around there being little to no overlap between character abilities, so adhering to that is encouraged, but exceptions can be made if two players are really excited about the same thing. Using playtest content from The Void is fine! I'd like players to update their characters if new versions of the content they're using come out though, but as long as you're cool with that, Void content is available! Once character creation is done, players can connect their Demiplane account to their Roll20 account to import the character sheet to Roll20.

The current party

The party is currently level 2 and made up of a Reborne Clank Wizard, Ridgeborne Drakona Guardian, Ridgeborne Katari Warrior, Seaborne Tidekin Druid, and Wanderborne Infernis Rogue.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need internet and accounts on Discord, Demiplane, and Roll20. You'll also need a working microphone and a relatively quiet place to be. Webcam and camera on during session is encouraged but not required.

What Celeste brings to the table

I'll bring a Demiplane account with a virtual copy of the core rule book as well as a subscription for sharing content with everyone else. I'll also bring well designed encounters that include exciting, cinematic combat and opportunities to resolve encounters nonviolently or without killing all the adversaries. Combats will also have stakes and narrative relevance. I'll use maps/tokens on Roll20 for some combats where positioning is more important and will stick to theater of the mind for others. Voices are a growth edge for me, and I'll do my best to differentiate NPCs enough so you can tell who's talking during role play scenes. I'll have a playlist of thematic music playing through the voice channel, and I'll use sound effects to enhance immersion in game. I'll also teach you how to play! I'll go through the basics that you need to know to make your character in session 0 and will continue supporting new players in learning the rules through play in the first couple sessions. In my experience, I've had players totally new to TTRPGs feel comfortable with the rules after a session or two.

Homebrew rules

I'll be using the optional rule about massive damage (mark 4HP if you take double your severe threshold or more). I'll be combining campaign frame specific mechanics from the Age of Umbra campaign frame that make certain adversaries more deadly and resting in the wilderness more dangerous, and Colossus type adversaries from the Colossus of the Drylands campaign frame. You can expect to encounter custom built Umbra-touched Colossi, for example.

Safety

How Celeste creates a safe table

I'll send out a Lines and Veils document for players to fill out before session 1. X, N, and O's can be typed into the text channel for the game. This is a horror game in a dark setting, so you should expect things typical of the genre if you're joining this game. I can be flexible with the details about how that shows up with many topics (for example, if anyone at the table has a fear of spiders, spider adversaries can be excluded or reskinned into different creatures). However, there will be an amount of violence, death, body horror/gore, zombies, cultists, and traumatized characters. If any of that is a deal breaker for you, this might not be the right game for you.
