About the adventure

Welcome to Anora, a continent rich in diverse geography and untamable arcanic phenomena. In the southern world sprawls Irglesia, a sun-touched desert where sands have buried an ancient world. Forgotten cities, treasures, and artifacts lie hidden in this sea of flame-hued dunes. To the west, the Burstona mountains tower over the sand-swept desert. Its peaks are so high that even draconic bloodlines dare not venture to the summit due to the formidable drop in atmospheric pressure. In the north, beyond the kingdom of Mes Nimis, stands the bastion of humanoid culture and society. Here, people reflect their environment—tradition, language, and art shaped by Anora’s magic and nature. The people of this continent have found balance with the force of arcana that exudes itself from every corner of the land. Anora thrives with a booming economy, vibrant with trade and knowledge from a diverse world of expansive life. But our story begins on a much smaller scale, within the port town of SaltzBurg—a place shrouded in both literal and figurative fog. The town is mysterious not merely because of its peculiar weather; a pervasive sense of unease and secrecy lingers in the air. The deep fog native to the Roth shores routinely cloaks the surrounding grassy hills and wetlands, amplifying the town’s somber and elusive nature. Outsiders often remark on the eerie quiet and strange tales whispered in shadowed corners, adding to the mystique that envelops Saltzburg. For many, Saltzburg is a place to hide, where the fog seems to swallow not only the land but the lives within. Residents drift through daily life with a subdued, almost haunted resignation, and the town itself echoes with isolation. Community ties are threadbare, friendships rare, and devotion scarce. Most notably, it is a place without question, where people seek refuge in anonymity, and the shadows provide cover for hardship and secrets alike. Saltzburg is a reliable stop for adventurers and long-distance travelers seeking supplies. It's not a sought-after stop, but its location on North Crest Road often makes it the most convenient. The town runs like a machine, citizens like cogs that move rigidly, fulfilling their purpose and nothing more. But everything changes when a small group of adventurers enters the square—unaware their world is about to shift. This campaign will be tailored to those playing in it, meaning the story will differ depending on your preferences and character choices. I will ensure that your character is an integral part of the story, that your backstory is fully integrated, and that your decisions matter. My favorite aspect of TTRPGs is collaborative storytelling. I provide the world’s tapestry and connect everyone’s story threads. Ultimately, we all share this experience equally. The best D&D stories happen when I’m also kept on my toes, never knowing what might happen next. I’ll work with each of you to ensure you feel part of this world and the narrative.

About me

I am a passionate DM in my early 20s, and I have always been fascinated with the potential TTRPGs have to facilitate collaborative storytelling. Stories that feel alive due to the unique thread each player weaves into the narrative's fabric. If you join one of my campaigns, you will quickly see that this is my focus — why I do what I do. In the past, I have performed as a professional theatre actor, written short stories, and explored various methods of storytelling, all of which are unique and special in their own way. Whether it is the stage, the screen, the pen, or the TTRPG table, all mediums contain varying, unique strengths in process and portrayal. For TTRPGS, it’s the collaborative aspect that I personally favor; the potential each and every player has to be a vital component of the narrative. In my campaigns, worlds feel alive, but not solely on the basis of my contribution to them. Worlds feel alive because they have been shaped and molded by the vast creativity of players who have breathed life into them. This is why I love what I do and will never be bored as a result: everyone brings themselves to the world and stories — changing them forever. I hope that you will join one of my games so that you, too, can shape the mold. I bring the immersion of living, breathing worlds; vibrant with music, dynamic voices, and descriptions. You bring yourself and your character, and their reactions to the machinations of the campaign and setting. As you affect it, the world will react and impact you in return, which will craft a story that none of us will soon forget. If you choose to invest your creativity and time into one of these stories, I'll give you everything I've got. Thank you for your time in reading this, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Character creation

Creating your character

For character creation, you're welcome to use any material within the expanded works of 5e (including the Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, etc.). If you would like to use material that is outside of official 5e rules, feel free to ask! This campaign will be using the 2014 version of 5e. If you would like to incorporate various 2024 rules that you are drawn to, feel free to ask, and we can negotiate! To determine your stats, you may roll or use point buy—it is up to your preference. When writing your character's backstory, don't feel as though you have to limit yourself! Some players derive more enjoyment from writing long and intricate backstories, while others prefer to write more concise ones—either approach is fine! With that said, you will get more out of this campaign if you at least have the following bases covered: - Where your character is from. How has this region shaped them? What have they had to do/become to survive this environment? - Characters that have influenced them. Are these characters still around? If so, in what ways do they continue to impact your character? - An event that motivated them to pursue adventuring/traveling. What does your character want? More world information will be available in the discord server (you will receive an invite upon joining the game). I will also be available and able to meet before the game starts if you have any questions about the setting. The starting level for this campaign is level three. We will be using the milestone system when leveling up. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You must have Discord, a microphone, and a ForgeVTT account (free to set up). If you have a webcam, you are welcome to use it, but it is completely optional. Otherwise, I am here to help make sure you are set up to succeed!

What Arthur brings to the table

Players can expect lively, immersive sessions featuring curated music from iconic games, movies, and TV shows, engaging social encounters, challenging combat, custom-designed battle maps, and more! As you'll see from how I GM, I encourage diverse play styles and am generally lenient when choices enhance the game and story. If you invest effort in character creation, backstory, or roleplay, I'll match that effort fully. I believe I am best at collaboration, responding to your characters in ways that always give players more room to explore.

Safety

How Arthur creates a safe table

My first priority is ensuring players feel safe and comfortable. I will provide numerous spaces and methods of communication to ensure you feel heard and respected. After every session, I will be available to talk if anyone needs anything or would like to provide feedback. Furthermore, I will hold a session zero where we will discuss safety, bringing group awareness to everyone's boundaries and triggers. Additionally, there will be a feedback form (anonymity is an option) where people can submit concerns about the session. Otherwise, my door is always open (mostly via discord DMs) if you need me!
