About the adventure

In the dawning New Republic, the galaxy is a fragile tapestry of hope and unrest, with Wild Space hiding secrets that threaten to unravel it all. In Shades of the Void, a gripping Star Wars 5e campaign, you and your allies—be it New Republic operatives, rogue Force-users, or daring freelancers—embark on a thrilling quest to uncover the truth behind vanishing outposts and eerie whispers of “void voices.” From the junk-strewn landscapes of Raxus Secundus to uncharted planets cloaked in mystery, your journey will pit you against a shadowy cult bent on plunging the galaxy into chaos. Wield lightsabers, blasters, and the Force as you navigate treacherous ruins, face relentless foes, and make choices that could shape the future of the New Republic. This campaign is tailored for players who love epic Star Wars adventures infused with cosmic mystery and moral complexity, brought to life through the Star Wars 5e (SW5e) ruleset. Whether you’re a Sentinel channeling the Force, an Engineer crafting cutting-edge tech, or an Operative weaving through intrigue, Shades of the Void offers a stage for every hero. Expect intense battles against zealous enemies, haunting Force visions that test your resolve, and decisions that challenge your loyalties in a galaxy struggling to rebuild. The tone blends the optimism of the New Republic era with an undercurrent of eerie dread, perfect for those who crave deep lore, dynamic roleplay, and the thrill of facing an enigmatic threat. What makes this adventure stand out is its seamless integration of SW5e mechanics with a rich, immersive narrative. Force-users will explore their connection to the galaxy’s mystic energies, while tech-savvy heroes can shine by hacking systems or forging upgrades. The campaign’s ever-present sense of intrigue keeps you questioning allies and unraveling secrets, with each session offering a mix of exploration, combat, and social encounters. From navigating perilous Wild Space worlds to infiltrating foreboding strongholds, Shades of the Void invites you to carve your legend in a galaxy on the brink. Will you rise as heroes to secure the New Republic’s future, or will the void’s shadows pull you under? Who It’s For: • Star Wars fans eager to explore the New Republic era’s blend of hope and turmoil. • Players who love cosmic mysteries, moral dilemmas, and Force-driven stories. • SW5e or D&D 5e players excited to use lightsabers, tech powers, or blasters. • Groups (4-6 players, levels 3-20) seeking a 15-20 session campaign with combat, roleplay, and exploration.

About me

I’ve been DMing for about 5 years now. I enjoy high-power campaigns, with lots of magic items. My favorite settings are Eberron and Exandria, and I own most of Wizards’ published campaigns.

Character creation

Creating your character

The bulk of character creation can be done in session 0, which will be free. I ask that each player come to the table with 3 character concepts. These concepts can be anything from a build, to a 30-page backstory, to a silly voice, to a life philosophy. We'll take these concepts and develop which best gel together (including which have the best potential for drama), and in the setting and story as a whole (it's no fun playing an anime character in a CW show, don't ask me how I know). I prefer standard array for stat generation, but that's not a hard rule. I do not ban any class, subclass, lineage, or source. Starting level is 3.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To prepare, please join the Discord and make sure to have your 3 character concepts ready for session 0. Any further questions, feel free to ask! Let's Play soon!

What Chris Walz brings to the table

My DMing style has been described as very story-forward and player permissive. I enjoy using character backstory information in a number of ways. I play with a variety of character voices and vocal styles, though I've been known to forget who I gave what voice to from time to time. I don't use ambient music or sound effects, as I haven't found a way of incorporating them that I like yet

Homebrew rules

I currently don’t use any homebrew rules for this system, but I’m open to recommendations.

Safety

How Chris Walz creates a safe table

I'm very sensitive to my players' personal lines and veils. I don't have a dedicated document, as I prefer players to send such information to me in private messages. I've never had this cause problems with one player broaching another's lines or veils unknowingly, but I do have infrastructure in place to address that situation if it should come up. I'm also always available to communicate, so please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
