About the adventure
300 years after the last great war, the world of Achaerion has returned to a sense of normalcy. While the major nations still vie for supremacy against one another, the powerful protectors from the Academy of Drakenskold continue to keep the people safe. The Academy is one of two methods of becoming a mighty dragon rider. You are part of the newest generation of rider and dragon. Whether the bond you forged was in the wild through shared experience and friendship, or from the ritual performed at the Academy, you are slated for training as a new rider and dragon. In this campaign, you may choose to be a rider, picking from the list of races and classes provided in the 2024 ruleset of D&D 5th Edition, or you may choose to be the dragon, using the provided race, class and background to grow your draconic power. This campaign is primarily a sandbox game after the first several missions that give you insight into the world, key characters, and the Rival system. After those missions and interactions, you and the party chooses what quest chain to follow, which factions to interract with, which story and lore paths to learn and complete. There are a lot of moving parts and hidden quest chains, NPCs to interract with and grow with. This campaign utilizes two systems with the majority of named NPC's - at least the friendly ones or ones you can make friendly. There is the Rival system that provides an NPC designed to compete against your character which is chosen or randomly rolled during Session 0 or after. The second system is the Loyalty variant rule that functions in a scale of 0 to 20, with twenty being the highest loyalty where they will fight and die for you, and 0 being the lowest where they may just hate you enough to want you dead. Whether you are a dragon wyrmling just recently bonded to your rider, or the inexperienced rider just recently bonded and inducted into the Academy, you have a whole world to explore, friends to make, enemies to sass and banter with, and stories to learn and forge yourself.

About me
I have been running TTRPG campaigns since 2015. Started as a player, then moved up to running a session once every couple weeks. Now I'm doing it weekly, and I can't get enough. I love to write and build worlds, and this lets me be every character I've ever written. I'm happy as the Forever DM, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my worlds with others!

Creating your character
Characters can be planned and designed before Session 0, but will be created during Session 0 as either a Rider or a Dragon. Either build will be using Standard Array or Point Buy (player choice) for their ability scores, and they will be starting at level 3. They may either use the starting equipment from their class and background, or starting wealth. As we are using the updated 2024 ruleset, we'll be using the classes from it and its background rules. Other races are allowed unless specified. Characters may be made in Foundry or imported from D&DBeyond. We also have access to Deep Magic for their subclasses and extended spell lists which will be allowed for those who wish to use them.
** First two sessions are half-off! ** We are level 5 and have a Goblin Grim Ranger, a Human Theurge, and 3 dragons - a Blue Land Wyrm, a Topaz Psionic Dragon, and an Emerald Lung Dragon. We need a new Rider or Dragon-and-Rider PC duo.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need an account with Discord to participate in the session voice chat and planning features, and you will need an adequate browser to connect to Foundry. A link to the Discord server will be provided once you join.
What CryptMaster brings to the table
My profile of character voices is growing, which I love to use for different characters and creature types. I try my best, though I may still get nervous. I will also provide music for the different main sections of the campaign, such as the Academy grounds, certain areas within, the world map, and specific main missions. As players can be either a rider or a dragon, combat will be scaled appropriately so expect to have either large amounts of enemies that may overwhelm the party or smaller groups of powerful enemies that are dangerous through their skills and abilities. Use the environment to your advantage and the knowledge you'd glean as a student at the Academy. Generally, I love doing cool things with the cool stuff you have. If it sounds like it should work that way, then maybe it should. I do tend to ascribe to how something is written depending on how you want to use it. If there's no conflict, then there's no reason it shouldn't be able to do the thing you want it to do - like putting iodized silver and holy water into a water flask to cast Fog Cloud to CS Gas a bunch of vampires to turn off their regeneration ability; No conflict and it sounds cool? Let's do it!
Homebrew rules
Brutal Criticals (extra damage die treated as having rolled max instead of rolling them), Exhaustion after falling to 0 HP (unconscious), Dumb Luck (using inspiration on a natural 1; success means the bad thing still happens but it is beneficial/achieves the desired result), and multi-use potions (bonus action sip to spend 1 use, action to spend all uses to heal an equal amount).

How CryptMaster creates a safe table
Session 0 will cover both character creation and any limits or triggers for players who wish to participate. These can either be covered through the Discord voice chat or via direct messaging. Breaks can be taken when needed or at the session's halfway mark. The content warnings provided in this listing may be changed based on player needs, as content may be removed to make it more comfortable for the group. I have a zero-tolerance policy for mistreatment of fellow players, and those who choose to participate in acts that make the game less fun with the statement of "it's what my character would do" are not welcome. Phobic statements and toxic acts are not welcome and will cause removal from the game. Political statements, arguments, and sentiments are discouraged while in the game or during sessions. Unless everyone has the same beliefs and are happy to share and discuss as adults, we're here to play the game that lets you either be a cool dragon rider or an actual dragon and not talk about real-world things. We're here to have fun and escape from reality for a bit.
