About the adventure
The fabric of reality has reached its natural expiration date. As our universe decays, splitting slowly into clouds of fog-like Quantum Foam, the walls between the real and the imagined wane. Dreams and nightmares alike follow the dreamers out from their sleep, books harbor gateways between worlds nested within their pages, and deep beneath the fading veil of reality stirs a being we have yet to attain the ability to comprehend. Rivening. The art of weaving dream into reality by tearing further into its wounds, rending fragments of worlds into Fog to fuel the crossing from fiction to fact. Those who commit the Rivening are known as Paracausalists, individuals capable of piercing the Veil and walking between worlds onto The Weave where all stories and histories intertwine across inter-dimensional Ley Lines. But out in the darkness beyond The Weave, something lies in ravenous wait. As the protective shell of objective reality dissolves, one by one our worlds succumb to unnatural apocalypses and are drained of their very potential, going dark within the maw of a deific parasite. That is, unless heroes emerge to push back the darkness and restore life and joy to our shattered realms. Hailing from beyond time and space, this world-eater is known by many tongues as the Star Vampire, and only you can stop it before it enslaves all things to its insatiable hunger. Muster your allies, gather your strength, and you may yet stand a chance at healing the wounds between the stars. ---------- The Knight & The Faun: Rivening is a campaign about freedom of choice and constant pressure, banding together against all odds to break the curse of cosmic desolation itself. Taking inspiration from the ludo-narrative structures of stories such as Mass Effect 3, Battlestar Galactica, and The Banner Saga, worth and roleplaying potential are defined for the party's every move and every decision is given the thrilling weight of dire consequence. A vast mix of genres inspired by worlds such as Spirited Away, Alien, and Arcane grants vast potential for character creation and world exploration, each of which causing ripples and changes within the campaign world under the consequences of the party's actions. Elements of horror inspired by works such as Reanimal/Little Nightmares, Darkwood, and Fran Bow will not only test the party's sanity, but also call upon the strength of their emotional bonds. Of course, the party will also battle untold hordes of exquisitely creepy and complex monsters, and perhaps their equally monstrous counterparts in the form of the characters and factions that will oppose your efforts. Elements of adventure and camaraderie inspired by works such as Citizen Sleeper, Firefly, and Red Dead Redemption II will provide the party with not only a massive cast of characters and places worth fighting for, but also risks and temptations as to what will be lost if you fall. In a campaign where you can be anything, who will you be?

About me
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ I knew I was a Storyteller when, as a child, I wrote Lord of the Rings fan-fiction not about burly knights slaughtering filthy orcses, but instead about the outlawing of ring forging after the 3rd Age and the post-war trauma of the War of the Ring stirring paranoia about the return of Morgoth. Unfortunately for them, their fears happened to be the perfect fuel for the first campaign I ever ran. ╬ Δ ╬ I am Nevik The Storyteller, an avatar of creation and a purveyor of nuance. Strung along by an Eldritch muse, gifted with divination unto a myriad of untold tales, I strive to embody the spirit of this inspiration and uplift others with the cathartic heartbeat of awe that flows through my very own veins. For a mere pittance of coin, so too shall you share a place within our grand expedition of this tapestry of worlds!

Creating your character
Character creation functions mechanically as normal from the options provided in D&D 5e (using the 2024 version of the ruleset). All game content and character building is fully automated within Foundry VTT, so you need only make the decisions for your character and the rest is handled for you. You may look up the exact info we will be using for the campaign here: https://5e.tools/ As GM, I will work with you to personalize your character's entry into the campaign's story, communicating with you about current events and story opportunities within the campaign to give your character a natural and deep connection to the world before they are introduced. Given the vast scope of the campaign's setting, you may also optionally customize your character's homeworld and its history without being restricted to a singular genre or set of lore. For character narrative inspiration, I recommend these videos: Pointy Hat - What Makes a Good D&D Character?: https://youtu.be/LLVJrK22gVA Jay Martin - Why Your Characters Magic Feels Boring (And How To Fix It): https://youtu.be/Hacu__moCPI In this campaign setting, the barrier between the real and the imagined wanes, leading to many paranormal events which deeply affect the characters within it and open the door to very real interactions with fictional worlds and alternative histories. -- Riveners is a term referring to individuals that have been displaced from their worlds through intentional or unintentional reality-bending events or rare gateways between worlds, often without a way of getting back. Has your character become separated from their home through supernatural mishap? -- Paracausalists are those who have mastered the controversial art of breaking down the fabric of reality and replacing it with an incarnation of their whim, whether that is to wield paranormal power or embody unnatural strength. Is your character gifted with the potential and the will to venture into the dark space between reality, and can they control it? -- Doppelgangers is a term used to describe the rare instance of multiple versions of the same person existing paradoxically across multiple worlds that share enough similarity with which to overlap them. Does your character have alternative versions of their lives playing out across The Weave?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Discord will be used for voice communication and optional video, which will be hosted within my Discord Server, The Coven of Diegesis! The Coven of Diegesis discord join link: https://discord.gg/6RFZaqDU66 Foundry will be used to host a virtual tabletop. It is run from my end, all you have to do is connect to it via a web browser through a game link that I provide. Additionally, you should provide a player name you wish to go by, a color to don upon your messages (either a general color or a hex code will do), and optionally a password, each of which will be used to customize and secure your player slot in the game room. That's it! If you need anything or have any questions, I am always available to reach out to.
What Nevik The Storyteller brings to the table
I adore setting the atmosphere using a wide range of music and ambient soundscapes. I have built a massive collection of high quality audio tracks and sorted them into nearly a hundred mood playlists which I switch between depending on the tone of the moment in-game. I switch between mimicking character voices and describing the experience of listening to them depending on which I think I can do justice and which method best fits the scene. The characters I portray tend to be filled with nuanced personality, and one way or another their being is expressed as deeply as the moment demands! NPCs do not merely wait to be interacted with by a player, rather they will actively engage should their personal set of goals call for it, from writing letters to striking up conversations to sudden but inevitable betrayals. While rules provide a system of consequence and therefore a network of fairness, nuanced story progression, and coordination, I have never been one to limit the imagination over a set of guidelines. The Rule of Cool is my book of law! If a proposed solution to a problem maintains a balance of effect and cost, and avoids fundamentally breaking the game in some way, I am all for it! I provide maps and visuals whenever possible, and as a backup I also use a Rangefinder and Theater of the Mind (with animated backdrops) for scenes I lack materials for. I also leave it up to my players as to which method I use most often since preferences on such things often differ between everyone, and I have found great beauty in both! Either way I will make your experience as immersive as possible.

How Nevik The Storyteller creates a safe table
I maintain a calm and friendly demeanor at all times and am always excited to receive communication or feedback! To help facilitate communication and foster a clear point of reference for preferences and boundaries, I employ the use of some Safety Tools which open a routine and safe space for such prompts to occur. For mid-session Safety Tools, such as the Luxton Technique and Open Door, gives any player the permission to pause a session at any time, no explanation required, wherein I will be available to talk with should there be any need. Mid-session regular breaks also occur automatically about every 1-2 hours which last 10-15 minutes each. For post-session Safety Tools, such as Aftercare, Bleed, and Debriefing, I allow some time after a session has come to an end to wind down and discuss how the session went for everyone. During this time, Stars and Wishes also helps to highlight what everyone liked about the session and what anyone would like to see in future sessions. For pre-campaign Safety Tools, such as Lines and Veils and the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist, I provide handouts for players to fill out which allow the detailing of preferences and boundaries around various flavors of content, which I can then use to lean into what everyone at the table enjoys and avoid what anyone at the table dislikes. I myself have a few medical conditions which, while very rare to flare up, are quickly debilitating and could require me to prematurely end a session, which I reserve the right to do. If this does occur, I will refund any payment that goes through for an incomplete session and resume things where we would have left off at the following session.
