About the adventure
1587, London. Magic and Science walk a thin line together as the discoveries of the Renaissance pull the world closer towards an age of reason. But a royal proclamation declaring the success of an Alchemical experiment in London threatens to change the course of history. The masses speculate, the Church condemns, but Mages see this as a great step in bringing magic back into the world. However, there are forces that will stop at nothing to this thwart this from taking place. Conspirators both within and outside the nation plot by darkness, blade, and craftmanship to prevent the kingdom from delving into what they claim is superstition and witchcraft. Strange omens plague the city shortly after the proclamation, only bolstering the claim of radicals who wish to overthrow the royal court. Not only that, but the mind behind the alchemical success, Dr. John Dee, may be plotting more than meets the eye... From the makers of Vampire: The Masquerade, Mage: The Ascension is a roleplaying game where magic-wielding humans known as The Awakened, battle for the fate of reality. Some mages hail from groups called Traditions or Crafts, each with a unique method of viewing reality, which can range from mother-earth witchcraft, hermetic occultism, or advanced engineering. But there are those who see magic itself and those who practice it as too dangerous or the world order, and thus have joined as The Order of Reason to purge the world of so-called "Superstitionists." Even worse are those dark and corrupted mages, the Nephandi, who wish to bring the world into chaos and destruction so they may be reborn in the ashes. What makes Mage unique from a gameplay perspective is that instead of set spells, players can have access to the 9 Spheres, each representing a certain aspect of reality that can be manipulated according to the Mage's knowledge and power. There is virtually no limit other than the Mage's own power and the player's imagination to what they can do. However, reality can bite back should you pull on its threads for too long, which can manifest as Paradox. This can be as simple as a mild headache to your hair turning into glass or your feet sprouting wings and carrying you into the sky. Thus mages congregate around places of power and secrecy such as Nodes and Chantries where reality is more malleable. Do you dare to wield such power? Do you dare to Awaken? Do you dare to Ascend?

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! My name is Lucas. I love hosting bizarre and brilliant adventures and seeing players' characters and ideas come to life! My main motivation is to learn more about the characters my players create, thus I always aim to give them situations and challenges that explore the character's values, as well as make their decisions lasting and impactful. I particularly enjoying hosting Mage: The Ascension because it allows players to explore esoteric themes as well as reality-warping madness. if you're in the mood for something more lighthearted, I also greatly enjoy using the D100-LITE system in Covert Ops for gun-blasting espionage adventures. I do not allow for the use of AI-generated assets in my games. Note: Nazis, racists, sexists, transphobes, homophobes, and other bigots are explicitly prohibited from playing, reading, watching, or enjoying my games. In fact, I'd rather you avoided my games altogether. If you have to ask whether this statement is about you, it is.

Creating your character
I will arrange one-on-one sessions before the game starts to assist with character creation.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
First, You should check that you have a working microphone and reliable internet connection. Then, please join the Discord channel to get in touch with me and your fellow players - https://discord.gg/MSeAPYRaqF From there, I can contact you about character creation and other questions you have about the game.
What Lucas brings to the table
My motivation as a GM is to learn about the characters my players create, and so I make sure to provide challenges and situations allow for the exploration of characters' convictions, beliefs, and bonds. From the above you can make out that I value roleplaying very much, and thus I value atmosphere to facilitate that, with use of ambient music.
Homebrew rules
This is a homebrew fusion of Mage 20 and Sorcerer's Crusade; using the Sphere (Magic) System from M20 and the skills and combat rules from SC. Combat has been streamlined in terms of initiative, resembling DnD, allowing for faster and easier combat rounds.

How Lucas creates a safe table
In my pre-game 1-on-1 sessions I host with players, I introduce them to my Lines and Veils to know beforehand what will be appropriate for my players. I also use digital safety cards on Foundry with which players can anonymously use should they feel uncomfortable or want to stop. I also use breaks every 1:30 hours and a short post-game debriefing to check in on players and make sure they are having fun.
