About the adventure
The mists of Barovia keep their secrets. Step into the shrouded Barovia; Realm of Dread. A demi-plane carved out of the Material Plane by strange unknowable cosmic forces and the interweaving of the threads of Fate. Players will traverse the realm and search out ways to defeat it's ruler Stahd von Zarovich and free themselves from the mists. The people of Barovia live short lives in despair and destitution. To keep the players from being bound to the same fate they'll have to fight for survival against hideous and strange creatures, make deals with shady characters, and trust to the vague destinies read in the cards. Do they have what it takes to walk back out of the mists of this shrouded land? Or will their bones pave the roads of Barovia for the next foolish souls?

About me
Hello! My name is Leland Vaughan although I usually go by Candlemoth online. I love the medium of RPGs and I'm excited to use this platform to play lots of different game systems that I haven't tried yet and am dying to jump into. I've been DMing and playing for somewhere around 12 years and when I started I never thought I'd be able to get paid to do what I love like this. I read constantly and I'm very interested in what Kurt Vonnegut called 'The Shape of Stories'. In that vain, I'm always looking to bring a unique and personalized experience to even pre-made adventures. Creating your character
Characters can either be created in DnD Beyond or on Roll20 itself. A link to the DnD Beyond character is required. Players should discuss with the party on Discord what concepts and ideas they have for their character too. Third party content will have to be run past me before being allowed. Players should keep in mind that this is a Grim Dark setting set in a fantasy realm structured around Grim Fairy Tales, and the somber times of periods in Europe like The Dark Ages.

Preparing for the session
Players will need a Mic, Discord Account, Roll20 Account, and a character concept that's open to going on adventures with other adventurers.
What DM Candle brings to the table
I'll be bringing the books, music, assets, maps, and other resources on Roll20 along with years of experience with DnD and Roll20.
Homebrew rules
This game uses a few homerules that have been adopted by the community over the years. We do not use any DnD 2024 content.

How DM Candle creates a safe table
Rules for general behavior and conduct are posted to the discord where the party will meet for game and the party's chat might be locked to others on the server to allow for more adult topics. Before Session 0 we'll go over the players Hard and Soft limits and make all players aware of them. We'll often discuss Stars and Wishes so the game can be improved and catered to the player's needs and wants and players can always bring up issues with me privately on Discord via DMs.
