About the adventure

Welcome to Obojima, a lush, spirit-touched island where sleepy villages, enchanted forests, and magical oddities exist in gentle harmony. In this cozy, roleplay-focused campaign, you’ll explore the simple joys of island life—sharing tea with talking animals, tending to your herb garden, learning spells from wandering spirits, and occasionally solving a mystery that drifts in on the ocean breeze. Inspired by works like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Studio Ghibli, and slice-of-life fantasy, this game invites you to slow down, savor the world, and form heartfelt bonds with your party and the island’s curious inhabitants. While danger may find its way to your doorstep from time to time, it’s the quiet moments—the shared meals, the firefly-lit strolls, the chance encounters—that shape your story. This game is ideal for players who enjoy character-driven storytelling, collaborative worldbuilding, and exploration without the constant pressure of combat or high-stakes drama. Whether you're a new player looking for a gentle start or a veteran adventurer seeking something softer, Obojima offers a space to breathe, wonder, and grow. Come with curiosity, a kind heart, and maybe a snack for the local yokai, there’s always something magical waiting just around the corner.

About me

šŸŽ¶ Hello adventurers! Stay a while and listen as we embark on a fantastic journey! šŸŽ¶ You can call me Mashby. I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons since 2e when I was a teenager. My favorite system was definitely 3.5e and my longest running game has been in 5e. Previously I've worked as an animator and production designer, and now I am an experience designer specializing in gamified learning. New players and folx with marginalized identities will find a safe space at my table, for it is my firm belief that all people deserve to create and have their stories heard. Collaborative storytelling is the portal through which we can explore the deepest dungeons and the furthest stars together.

Character creation

Creating your character

We’ll be creating characters either before the game begins or together in session 0. This gives us time to tie your character into the world and ensure everyone feels comfortable with each other’s playstyle and backstory connections. Characters will start at Level 1, using standard ability score generation (either point buy or standard array—your choice). This game focuses on storytelling over stats, so feel free to pick what feels right for your character. We’ll be using the Obojima: The Isle of Wondersetting materials as the main source of flavor, backgrounds, and regional flair. The base ruleset will be D&D 5e, and you’re welcome to use official classes and subclasses from the Player’s Handbook, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, or Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. Homebrew and third-party options can be considered—just ask! If you're new to D&D, no worries! I’ll happily guide you through the process. And if you already have a cozy or quirky character idea in mind, bring it! This is a world that welcomes bakers, mushroom foragers, broom-riding sorcerers, and frog-summoning bards with open arms.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account, a decent mic or headset and some excitement for cooperative storytelling!

Safety

How GM Mashby creates a safe table

Creating a safe, welcoming space for everyone at the table is a top priority. To support open communication and emotional safety, we’ll be using a three-tiered safety system before and during gameplay: 1. RPG Consent Checklist Before we begin, all players will be asked to complete a private RPG Consent Checklist. This helps everyone understand what topics are welcome, what should be avoided, and where individual boundaries lie. This includes both hard limits and ā€œsoftā€ topics that require sensitive handling. 2. Lines & Veils We’ll also use a Lines and Veils document, which we’ll review together during Session 0. Lines are content that will not appear in the game at all. Veils are topics that may exist in the world but will be handled off-screen or with narrative distance. This ensures everyone is on the same page about tone, boundaries, and expectations. 3. X-Card System During play, we’ll use a digital or verbal version of the X-Card. If anything makes a player uncomfortable, they can say "X," type it in chat, or send me a private message, and the scene will immediately pause or shift—no questions asked.
